3 Months Old Schedule

My son is three months old and really isn't on much of a schedule. We try to feed about 7:30 and lay him down about 8:30, but he always sleeps for different amounts of time. On Thursday he slept for 7 hours and only woke up once, Friday night he woke up like 4 times then twice again last night. I tried to let him cry him self back to sleep, but feel really bad about this esp. if he has a wet diaper.

Some others posts have been tempting to try, but they didn't go into great detail about how it worked for their child.

He is 3 months old and about 11 pounds. When he was born he weighed 7 lbs on the dot. We also have bad acid reflux that we are fighting with. It seems that his zantac has stopped working yet again and I really do not want to up the dose any more.

Please give me your thoughts and what worked for you other Mama's and Daddy's. I was a stay at home Mom, but have decided to go back to work full time next Monday and will be working 60 hour weeks so I really need my sleep. I also am still nursing him and plan on this for as long as I can.

Thank you for all your wonderful advice.

We have a newborn and we asked our pediatrician her thoughts on when a schedule should be introduced. She said infants don't self-soothe until 4-6 months (4 months at the absolute earliest)... Which means a schedule for when to sleep will not be successful until the child can self-soothe.

I have a 3.5 month baby girl, but she's my second so I have a bit of history on my side. At this age I would not expect a schedule. I remember when my son was this age I read a book telling me to make a chart and his "natural" sleep/wake/eat schedule would emerge. It didn't. He was just a baby so he was all over the place. I just tried to create a semi-schedule the best I could and then we sleep-trained at 6 months. And it worked. Until then I wouldn't have him cry it out, I would just get through the next few months and things will much improve - especially if you sleep train him around 6 mos. Hope this was helpful!

He is only 3 months old. Do not let him cry it out at this age. When he is crying he needs you. I am all for cry it out when they are older, but at 3 months they just need comforted, fed, or change, or rocked back to sleep. If he is really gassy and irritable etc. try elimination an diet. My sister just found out why her son has been miserable for the past year, he is allergic to wheat and gluten. My son was irritable and slept horribly for the first 3 months until i stopped drinking milk. Also try mylicon drops. 3 months is a growth spurt stage so feed every three hours or so. He sounds like a normal 3 mo old baby to me. Cry is out is not meant for 3 months old.

I also have a 3 mo old and he is getting into a pretty good schedule. Try an hour before you like to go to bed giving him a bottle with two more ounces than normal and add rice cereal to it., and adjust your feedings during the day to match up with that. We recently added music to his room because he would sleep better with noise at his grandmas house whenever we go there, so find a classical station and try that too it can't hurt. I hope something helps good luck.

I nursed for 11 months, worked full time, so I understand your situation. I also did a modified version of CIO. We followed the Dr. Weisbluth book. With that being said, IMO your son is WAY TOO YOUNG TO BE CIO!!!!! Meet his every need and worry about sleep training in 2 months. If you want some more guidance on what I did, feel free to send me a message. My son is/was an amazing sleeper:)
