My 12 week old has only had 3 bottles a day for the past like 2 days. He eats between 6 and 8 ounces at a time. Last week we sucsefully swtich formulas from enfamil to good start. is this normal? I was told that 18-20 oz a day is normal for his age....That is what he is doing. He is gaining weight and everything. Its only been twop days. i think I'll wait a lil longer than two days to call the Dr. It may just be these last few days he likes his sleep.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I didn't call his doctor. Figured it was a faze and was right he is back to 5 bottles and has been fine. He just was tired those few days so that was probably it

He should be eatin every 3-5 hours and having about 6-8 oz at a time at his age. I would call the doctor and get him checked. Are his diapers being wet at changes?

As long as he looks and acts normal, and he is eating, he could just be going thru a non-growth spurt? LOL Just make sure to kinda force feed him a bit of water here and there so he doesn't get dehydrated at least. If he only takes the 3 bottles for a few more days though I'd probably want to call my doctor just to be sure. He could be just coming OUT of a growth spurt, where he just isn't as interested in eating much, that's what I'd think.

At 3mo, your baby should be eating more like 6x a day. If he still isn't eating well, I would call the doctor and have him checked.

Dear Minday, I think it's awesome that you thought to ask this question. A lot of mom's might just chalk it up to being less hungry, or more tired. I agree with these other moms that he should be eating more. Definitely offer him bottles more often, even if he doesn't seem hungry.

I think as long as he is gaining weight that your doctor will tell you its fine. Is he sleeping ok? Long periods? or many frequent small naps. Baby will find sleep more desirable than food at 12 weeks.

I will agree with some of the other ladies, if it continues do call the doctors..
But I will say from my experience that my daughter would occasionally go through series where she will only have a few ounces here and a few ounces there. Sometimes just have 3 or 4 bottles a day... But I figure it was the growth sprut and/or teething. She is 9 months now and still does that sometimes..

I would call the doctor and see what they say. My son is a week older than yours and he eats about 6-8 ounces every 3-4 hours. There is probably nothing wrong but wouldn't you rather hear that from the doctor? Good luck.
