I also have a 3 1/2 month old, and he is just settling into a routine. Short morning nap (30min-1 hr), longer afternoon nap (1-2 hrs) and a short evening nap (30 min). What I pay attention to, particularly for the longer afternoon nap is how long he's gone between feedings rather than how long he's sleeping. (I also exclusively breastfeed.)That way I can feed him more during the day so that he needs less at night. I usually feed him between 2-3 hours during the day, and I will get him up from his nap to nurse if it has been 3 hours (sometimes he will nurse & sleep more, waking him doesn't bother him at all). It might be worth trying if you want to get more feedings in during the day rather than at night. Of course, these little guys always want to keep us on our toes! Two nights ago, he woke more frequently at night, and went through a spurt of wanting to eat every hour during the day. Maybe they're going through growth spurts? Then last night he went from 7pm to 5am, his longest night yet! I don't think that will stick, but it gives me hope. :)
