Switch Dr. and investigate the daycare there could be something there he is exposed to that is making him sick and he may need other care.
Good luck.
my toddler has a cold every month basically for the past yr and half. he was sick the whole month of feb. had about 5 day break and today here comes the runny nose coughing again sneezing. i honestly dont remember the last time he was no sick. and thats sad. the drs just say o hes in daycare expect 10 to 12 colds a yr. now hes already on a daily inhaled steroid becuase when he gets colds they seomtimes turn into asthma. his dr dont care. does this sound like bad allergies more than "common cold" i mean to me it does! no human being is sick 300 days out of the yr. and im sick of not having an answer. i need advise here on what u moms would do. or anyone have the same situation as me? at least the colds dont affect his personality. it doesnt even bother the poor kid. its just fact of the matter here.
thank u ladies

Sounds like allergies could be definitely present. See an allergist to get a full skin and/or blood test. If you can find out the allergens, avoiding them or taking allergy medication will really improve his quality of life.
The first thing I would do is take your child off all dairy. Dairy creates mucous. It's a simple test to see if his 'cold' clears up. There are other great sources of protein (nuts, nut butters, fortified almond milk, coconut milk, etc-obviously is there is no nut allergy.). You can use a calcium supplement to get the daily recommendations of calcium.
My son also presented with 'asthma' when he got his first bad cold/respiratory virus, right when he turned one and we had to go to Children's. My doc recommended taking him off dairy and everytime I've tried to reintroduce it, especially milk or ice cream, we ended up at Children's Hospital for breathing issues, the last time for a 2-night stay.
He can now tolerate small amounts, but I definitely stay away from all dairy when he has a cold. Just try it and see!! I've gone off dairy and my seasonal allergies have drastically improved, I can breathe through my nose SOOOO much better (don't have to use those breathing strips at night to sleep), no more 'clearing my throat', and my skin looks better. I just feel so much better. Maybe that's what going on with your little guy.
I would think allergies as well but would avoid the skin prick test mentioned below. There is a childhood allergy blood test (total IgE) that tests for environmental and food allergies combined and has great coverage by the insurance companies.
We need to look out for our kids so I would push for blood testing from ordered from a pediatrician. The allergist will encourage skin prick testing because that's how they make their money...I work for a testing laboratory.
Take him to a chiropractor that is used to treating kids. The kids I know who do go almost never get sick! And make sure he eats healthy and is exposed to some normal forms of bacteria (not sterilizing everything, using hand sanitizers, etc). Probiotics, vitamin d and vitamin c are good too.
If your doctor does not seem to care, I would switch drs.
Years and yrs ago, when my daughter got sick all the time, I switched all the cleaning products and laundry detergent to "green" ones. I aired her rm out 5-10 minutes a day. I, too, gave my daughter Melaleuca vitamins. I took her off of dairy (it clogs) and all the soy I could take her off of. Since 1995, all the corn the cows eat and the soy has been tampered with---see OCA.com and/or notmilk.com. Since then, allergies have skyrocketed.
What are they using to clean in the daycare? Is your toddler eating healthy?
couple thoughts...first off maybe our definition of "sick" is different. to me, a runny nose, especially if it's not slowing him down, is not really being sick. also, it might be some kind of allergy? if it's ALL the time like that, mostly runny nose and sneezing/coughing, it may not be illness ,and i would at least ask the dr what he thinks. and last, i would try another pediatrician. no matter what i feel like the dr should be paying more attention, working "with" you. the fact that you feel he doesn't care just makes me feel this isn't the pediatrician for you.
yes allergies!!! start giving him 1/2 a tspn of childrens benadryl 3 times a day. suction his nose out atleast morning noon and night. buy a neil med squeeze bottle and sinus rinse packets and start rinsing his nose. this takes time to get used to but it helps soo much. my daughter started them at 3 because her outside allergies got soo bad she could hardly breath
This must be your first!
You child is in a place where kids are constantly sick which means he will constantly have a runny nose, or fever, or the runs...etc that is a part of childcare and even school!
There is NOT a day in my house with three kids when someone is healthy during the winter time!
But hey if you want to run yourself rampid trying to find what is wrong go for it! You'lll just drive yourself crazy!
My friend's daughter always had a runny nose when she was a toddler/preschooler. It turned out she was allergic to wheat, corn and something else. Once they changed her diet her constant runny nose went away (It really did seem like a bad cold). Or perhaps it is allergies - have you taken your son to an allergy specialist to get him tested? I would try a homeopathic doctor who can test for being allergic to wheat/etc. And I would also try an allergist. Good luck!
sounds normal to me.. my dr said that kids get 7-10 colds a year.. but kids in day care get 3x that many colds.. so 20-30 colds a year.
The first year my kids were in daycare they were sick from october -till- april..
they do not have asthma so we just had colds.. but if your child has asthma.. you can expect each cold to turn into asthma..it will probably be better in the summer and better next winter.. he will likely grow out of most of it.
Any chance there is mold in your house? I knew some kids that were constantly sick with everything undert the sun. The Mom kept thinking it was mold in her rental house, the ped was like no, no couldnt be that, this is not mold sickness. Well they moved to a new house and guess what they are rarely sick anymore!
Completely sounds like allergies. I'm no doctor, but I know allergies all too well!
I dealt with this with my now 5 yr old. and it was the year he was in preschool. He to was on breathing treatments everyday from sept to april. it was hard , but we got thru it. We were in the dr office 2-4 month. Now i have him taking Koala pals vitamins from Melaleua. I was really bad at remembering to give them to him, bc i had them put high in a cupbaord so he couldnt get them. But now since he has been taking them everyday for the past 2 months straight, he hasnt been into the dr office at all! :-) all the vitamins from Melaleuca have Oligo in the them, which makes them over 85% soluable so our bodies are getting what they need. there are no vitamins out there like these & they have the scientific proof to back it up. Best part is they offer 60 day empty bottle money back guarentee. so if your child doenst like them or you dont see a difference, u get ur $ back.
Hope that helps, they aer offering $1 memeberships right now thru March 15th. everyone who is a customer is refered by another customer. Let me know if you are interested & I'd be happy to help you.
Also another to check is the products you use in your home. I switched over all my cleaning products to non-toxic & chemical free & that seemed to help also. Stay strong! ~ S.
This sounds typical for a 2 yr old who spends his days in daycare.
Could it be mold? Did your house have a flood/roof leak/any water damage before this endless illness began?
It sounds more like allergies.
I would make sure his sheets are clean, routinely change them, dust his room often, vacuum every other day. Try very hard to keep dust & dust bunnies from collecting.
Possibly ask your dr if he/she thinks it could be allegegies.
And if so, what can be done.
Also, ask about a humidifier. Ask first to get his/her opinion to see he/she thinks this would help.
Best of luck & hang in there!
This sounds like my 2 year old son, it's worse certain times of the year. His pediatrician thought for sure it was allergies. Try giving him some children's allergy medicine, if it helps than it's most likely allergies. That was the case with my son. I don't give it to him all the time, only when it's bad and I think he really needs it.
It sounds like allergies. As someone who suffers from allergies year round, I can tell you that they feel much different than a cold, although I doubt a 2 yo can tell you that. You could take him to an allergist for testing. Be prepared though. We just went through it with my 5 yo and I have never felt so bad. They stuck his back 20 times (they found nothing for him), but it could give you the answers you need. I am supposed to follow up with a blood test but I haven't found the nerve to do it to him yet.
