2Nd Birthday Party - Scarsdale,NY

My daughter will be turning 2 in August, and I've received lots of conflicting advice about planning a birthday party - family only vs. some kids, two kid guests vs. up to ten, inside the home vs. outside the home, indoors vs. outdoors, etc.

Do people think that a 2yo would appreciate having a real party, or should we just wait until next year? My daughter attends day care and is sociable and active. She doesn't have many specific interests, but she does like animals, colors, Sesame Street characters, etc.

Any suggestions for party locales/themes in Westchester?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

My daughter had a second birthday party in January and she is still talking about it (not that it was so spectacular but she had a good time)
So I think they can/do appreciate having a real party

Since she was born in January, and we live in a small apt, I have to rent out a place so we did Stew Leonards and they were great and reasonably priced. Good luck!

We decided to skip a party for bday #2. There will be no recollection and it's hard to find good age appropriate activities.

I made a cake and goody bags for his day care friends so they could celebrate there. My suggestion is take what you would have spent and put it in a college fund! ;)

To make your life easy have a party for her at daycare - order a pull apart cupcake cake from the grocery store - Stop and Shop or Pathmark depending on where your at. They also have themes available. Since alot of schools encourage healthy snacks you could order a fruit platter from the grocery store also or make one yourself if you have time, also buy some box juices. Then you can have a small family gathering at home. My family usually decorates the house to give that real party feel - a few streamers and balloons go a long way especially with 2 year olds. We usually do pizza, cake and ice cream. Less stress on you and the child feels extra special because they had 2 parties ! For the decorations may I suggest Party City in New Rochelle/Pelham near Home Depot. They are always fully stocked. You can always buy a themed tablecloth and matching colored plates and utensils. I usually buy themed plated and napkins for the cake. Also since I notices that you live in Scarsdale there is a store in Eastchester called Value Drugs. They sell latex balloons for $1.00 each and you can go in 2 days before you need them and place the order. As for everything else do what is easiest for you and do what you want no what others think you should do ! Hope this is of some help.

We had a 2 year birthday party for my son and he seemed to like it. Maybe don't make it too big - and really just let the kids run around and play. I wouldn't try to plan activities - though in the summer if you have a small pool for the kids to splash in and made a mess, they might enjoy that.

Though I do have to say, I think the part my son liked the best was when everyone left and he got to play with his new toys in peace!! ;-)
