Hi,
I'm 28 weeks along with my 3rd baby and I'm in so much pain! I don't really know what's causing the pain, but wondered if anyone could help. The pain I'm having is in my hips and pubic bones. It feels like there's this constant "pinching" pain, like a pinched nerve, on the back side of my hips. And with my pubic bone, it's really only on the right side, but it hurts so bad that I can't even really walk..or sit..or even lay down without it hurting. I can't even pick up my legs to put some pants on without it hurting. It's kind of a pinching/burning pain. Has anyone had a problem with these kind of things? Was there anything that worked for you? I've even had trouble sleeping because of the pain. I've been sleeping with a pillow between my legs lately to try and help with the pain. It helps somewhat, but not enough for me to get some good sleep.

If you guys can help me out, that would be great! I'm willing to try just about anything at this point. lol. Please, I want to be able to do stuff with my kids again!

*Edit* Well I got alot of advice from alot of people, thank you so much! My only problem is, I don't really have any money to go see a a chiropractor. I have recently become a single SAHM..I've been trying to get a job, but being 28 weeks, not alot of people will even give you an interview. I just got medicaid and my first OB/GYN appt. was on Oct. 26th. Stupid medicaid took forever, so I had no prenatal care before that, I've just been taking some OTC prenatal vitamins. My next appt. isn't until the 19th, do you guys think I should see him before then? Does anyone know if medicaid would pay for something like a a chiropractor? I've been trying to call them, but they're not much help most of the time. Oh and for those of you that said your experience with this pain was "it comes and goes", no..not for me..for me this is a constant pain. I've had it for the past month or so and it has yet to stop at all. I'm sorry if I sound like I'm complaining, it's just I'm so tired and stressed and hurting..I just want some answers to help ease my mind, if not my body. Anyways, thank you all so much for the help you've given so far!

So What Happened?

Wow! It's been a really long time...I didn't know that I didn't tell everyone what happened! Sorry guys! I know it's about 8 months late, but here we go!

Turns out I had Pelvic Girdle Pain, Doc said it was just something I had to "deal" with and it would go away after baby was born. He was right! It really sucked, I had ALOT more pain later on (so much so that I had to be induced at 39 weeks), but it stopped shortly after Casey was born! (a few weeks, don't remember exactly how long lol) I still have some problems from time to time (i.e. "that time of the month" and if the weather is really bad), but other then that I'm fine! Thanks to everyone out there! <3

I'm so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. With my first pregnancy I had a little bit of sciatica, but with my second I was in pain all of the time like you after a certain point. I know it is not easy. My OB said that the only thing he could recommend was lots of stretching, but that was excruciating, so I couldn't bring myself to do it.

I just wanted to respond that in Texas medicaid does pay for you to see a chiropractor but I didn't know that until after I had Sean and was no longer in pain... and that is the good news... my pain left when I had Sean.

But I also wanted to give you a little tip that I would have LOVED to know when I was pregnant, is that Massage therapists have to take special a "Pregnancy Massage" class to get their Pregnancy Massage certificate... most of these people are highly experienced and just need a piece of paper to broaden their clientelle to pregnant women... To take the class, they need an actual pregnant woman to volunteer... I volunteered for a friend of mine and they were short on volunteers so I let two people work on me, and let me tell you, it was heaven! The point to all of this is that the extra guy asked me if I was having any trouble with sciatica (which I wasn't at the time) because he could do a release for me. I recommend calling massage therapy schools and seeing if they need volunteers! There is an ideal range in how far along you can be, and I think you fit in now, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it's worth a shot. I wish you the best of luck!

I have been there! It should get better soon in about 2 weeks. I actually used crutches for a while because of the pain in my pelvic bone and hips. Everything you are saying is exactingly how I felt.

What I did was go to a good and experienced massage therapist (who was also my midwife), rest a lot and you should feel much better around 30 weeks.
Also you should be taking really good vitamins that that don't crystallize when digested, and aren't absorbable, and destroy important vitamins like C and E.
Use a vitamins that are oligofructose so your body can absorb into your system and the babies!
Good luck!
LoveAtHome.com I read your response and saw that you may want a job that you can do from home. I was single with 5 kids and understand how you still feel the need to be at home with them. I feel the same way. Now I have 9 children at home every other week and 3 children every other week. So I really can't work outside of the home. I would love to show what I have been doing for he last 7 months and will be doing this for a very long time! No new money and not a MLM. Just reply to this message and I can send you more info if you are open. Hope you are feeling better!

I sympathize with you. I had the same kind of pain with my daughter when I was pregnant with her. It was hip/pelvic pain mainly. I did not have the back aches that most people speak of, it was my hips that killed me. My pain got worse as the pregnancy progressed. You can try stretching or going for a massage. The stretching helped for a short time.
I used an exercise ball when sitting. It turned out that she was 9lbs. 5 ozs. I had the hip pain because she was so big. I will say I had instant relief once she was born. I still have a joint in my lower back that slips out of place due to my pregnancy. Hang in there!!! You will be in my prayers.

I had similar pain during my last pregnancy - doctor told me it was the loosening of my joints (especially around hips and pelvis) which causes everything to ache. I told him, "its not an ache, its a burning, pinching, darn painful sensation"... but he said its very normal. I almost felt as they my hips were going to slip out of joint when I moved. Not sure if this helps, but I'd bring it up at your next check up to be sure.

It's called pubic symphysis diastasis. It's pretty common. Your ligaments are loosening, and your pelvic bones are separating and not necessarily coming back together correctly. Prenatal yoga is a savior for this! Kula, Bodhi and YogaYoga have prenatal classes. Every prenatal yoga instructor in Austin has heard of this and knows how to fix the problem.
Some of the ways to avoid it is to take small steps and turn your feet in slightly pigeon-toed when you walk ... big hip stretches on both sides.

Been there! It's called Pubic Symphysis. When you said that the pubic pain was on one side that's what clued me in. Check out this Wikipedia page and read the symptoms at the bottom and see if you fit into these categories. I bet you do. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelvic_girdle_pain The only thing that helped me was chiropractics and yoga. It was amazing how well it helped but unfortunately nothing will take away all the pain I'm afraid except for giving birth. I just coped with things by changing my habits. I would put my pants on sitting down so the standing and lifting my leg wouldn't hurt. That sort of thing. You may also have some sciatic nerve issues happening too along with the Pubic Symphysis which when combined is awful! The chiropractics helped with that too. If you nee the name of a good Austin pregnancy chiropractor let me know. He does first visits free too.

It's a miserable thing we go through in pregnancy sometimes but the end result is so worth it!

I had something similar. It felt like there was an ice pick in the right side of my pubic bone. The only thing that helped was going to physical therapy. They showed me a stretch where you lie on your side and someone else pushes and pulls your hips back in place. They think my hips were getting misaligned because of the relaxin during pregnancy. Anyway, the stretch is a temporary relief, but it is better than nothing. Hang in there!

Good news is that it disappeared immediately after the baby was born.

I had a similar experience and believe it was called Pubic Symphysis Disorder. Unfortunately there's not much you can do other than stretching to help alleviate the pain. Anything that causes your legs to separate (stairs, getting out of the car, etc.) will cause the pain so anything you can do to prevent that will help (swing both legs out of the car to get out). I found that a pregnancy belt helped a little bit because it sort of compressed the pelvic area. The good news is that it did go away within a few weeks of childbirth. I think you just get used to the discomfort but hang in there! Make sure to get plenty of rest if possible (w/ 2 young boys, yeah right huh?). My prayers are with you!

It could be your round ligaments stretching again. It got worse with each pregnancy I had. Or, like others have mention it could be a pinched nerve. Chiropractors could help with that.

Hi A.,

When I was 20 weeks pregnant, I developed something similar. It was on my right side, as well. I discovered that I had a mild disc bulge between L4 and L5, and the extra weight of my pregnancy was exacerbating the problem. Additionally, my hips and pelvic region shifted just enough to make it an issue. There was not much I could do except take Tylenol, and I certainly didn't want to take too much of that. After seeing my doctor and determining there was nothing "wrong" with my pregnancy, I sought out the help of a chiropractor and massage therapist. I went twice a week throughout the rest of my pregnancy, and continued several months after. The pain didn't completely go away, but it became manageable and I got some relief. Also, I bought a Maternity Band, a support band for my belly, that took some of the pressure off my lower back. That seemed to help alot. I wish you the best!

I used a chiropractor experienced with pregnant women all throughout my pregnancy due to a pre-existing back injury. I managed to do Jazzercise Lite classes until I was 35.5 weeks (I delivered at 37.5) and had practically no back pain! I can highly recommend trying it out.

You will probably need multiple adjustments the first week or so, but then you can maintain every week or two.

Good luck and congratulations on your new baby.

I would recommend a chiropractor who works on pregnant women.

Also, sitting on a birth ball and moving around on it can help relieve pain. It helped my hips and sciatic nerve pain tremendously. Pelvic rocks are great for hip and lower back pain, and they're much easier done sitting on a birth ball!

I never had any pain with either one of my kids. It could be a nerve, kidney stone??, bladder infection all sorts of things. I would for sure talk to your OBGYN about it!! I dont think you should be having this type of pain.

I SO feel for you! I have had that exact same horrible pain with 3 out of 4 of my pregnancies! You've had some great suggestions and mine is nothing new but a chiropractor helped me so much! Most of the time it made the pain leave completely (after a number of visits). You just need to get a good chiropractor who knows what they are doing! I don't know about you but stretching just made it more painful. The advice of sitting on an exercise or birthing ball is a good one! If you need a referral just pm me - I love mine!

Congratulations on your 3rd boy! I have 4 boys and they are SO much fun!!! Good luck!

I had something similar with my last pregnancy. I think the doctor said it was a pinched nerve in my right hip. There would be a week or more at a time when I would barely be able to walk, and then it would go away for awhile or at least be more bearable. You might try a maternity band to help take the pressure off a little bit. Hang in there! I remember that pain and am really hoping I don't have to go through it again with my current pregnancy!

I had something similiar throughout my 1st pregnancy. I remember my (ex) husband having to help me roll over in bed b/c I was in so much pain. The pillow between my knees helped a lot. Needless to say, a couple hours after I delivered, I got out of bed and had ZERO pain. I was told it was b/c she was laying on a nerve. I don't know if that was true or not. It's painful, but hang in there - it won't last forever. Good luck with your new baby boy!

Hey girl,
I just wanted to say that I am so sorry! I am 28 weeks also with baby #2 and this one has been a lot rougher! It sounds like you might have sciatia(sp)?. Your baby may be pinching you sciatic nerve. I had a great friend who went through this on her last two pregnancies. She had to stay off her feet as much as she could and she just got through it. I wish I had more advice, but I am sure some of the mamas on here will be able to help you out. But definitely talk to the dr about it, bc he/she might be able to do something to help. I am going to the dr today and am ready to talk about my issues!! Hang in there, only 12 more weeks baby!!! Congrats on your new baby:)
