27 Weeks and Feeling Odd Movement

I'm 27 weeks in my second pregnancy. About 1 1/2 weeks ago I thought I felt what I can best describe as my baby having a seizure. It was rapid movement for about 15 seconds. I thought maybe he had just woken up and was moving around a lot, and thought if I feel it more then I'll call the doc. I haven't felt it again until tonight. This time it lasted about 20-30 seconds. Has anyone else felt this before? I go back for my regular checkup on Thursday, and I'm trying to decide if this is really something to be concerned about and if I should call my doctor tomorrow, or if I should just wait until my appt. I have no cramping or bleeding, and feel normal movement other than these 2 times. It's so hard to know what's normal and what's not.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much! I did decide to wait since I haven't felt that since the other night, and my appt. is only 2 more days. I've felt normal movements other than those 2 times. I didn't have this with my 1st pregnancy, so it was completely new to me. I will still mention it to my doctor, though.

If your gut tells you to call the doctor, please call the doctor. A baby that is over-active in movement may not necessarily be normal.

I am a memeber of varios stillbirth support groups (I had a stillborn son at 32 weeks gestation last year) and there are many Moms out there who said that they wished they had gone to see the doctor when their baby was not behaving "normally" (IE: more movement than usual; less movement than usual).

My intent is not to scare you but to caution you that if something feels out of the ordinary and your gut tells you to see the doctor, PLEASE go see the doctor.

Good luck to you :)

I have never felt that but if you are concerned go ahead and call your doc and just ask them, thats what they are there for then you will know. Congratulations!

Completely normal. In fact, last week my doctor asked me if I was feeling the baby move and I started to tell her yes and that sometimes it's this weird shaking and she finished the sentence for me with "like a siezure". I said yes! And she said she gets that question all the time and its just some odd movement that babies do that feels like flutters and not to worry. (it didn't help that I had just read this article online about seizures in babies). I"ve had them for a while and still occasionally get them even at 39 weeks! I never had this "movement" with my other two pregnancies so it scared me at first. But I now know its common :) I would just wait till your next appt to check into it.

i feel that all the time, and i have in all 3 of my pregnancies. i asked the dr. but they have always said this is normal and it just feels weird to us when they are turning or moving around. i have been having reg. ultrasounds this pregnancy bc of risk of preterm labor but everything seems just fine.

I experienced that when I was pregnant with my son. It freaked me out! The doctor told me that it was normal and all was fine. It continued through out my pregnancy and I mentioned it every time I went into the doctors. My son is now four and all is well. I would talk to your doctor about it just to ease your mind though
