27 Month Old Still Not Walking

Ok, I have posted on here before about my little guy not walking. He can take about 20 steps on his own when he wants to. However, with nothing to hold on to, his confidence is shot and he becomes so tense that that usually makes him fall. He walks with confidence holding on to me, or an object, or his walker that we borrowed from his physical therapist. He has had a myriad of tests done and everything has come back normal, although they have told me that they do see a definite weakness in his muscles. He is having muscle biopsy done soon and we are still meeting with specialists to figure out what the problem is. We do physical therapy once a week and I take him to all kinds of baby gyms, etc. to ensure that he is as active as possible. He did everything as a baby on time - sitting up, crawling, cruising, etc. He was also never a "floppy" baby. He is a super laid back kid who isn't in a huge hurry to do things and he is really smart and inquisitive, but also doesn't really care about "getting into stuff". Has anyone else had a similar experience? What was the outcome? Also any advice is welcome as well! Thank you!

What can I do next?

So it sounds like you are doing everything medically that you can.
My only suggestion is that you take him to a really great osteopath. They can really work wonders with all types of medical conditions.
I took my daughter at 3 months old after she had been screaming non stop for the first 3 months of he life, innacurately diagnosed with colic, acid reflux...etc. After her first appointment she stopped screaming!!!! no more colic!!!
I took her again at 1 year old because she developed a weird type of crawl "the army crawl" we called it... (one leg behind and other crawling) but she crawled normally within 2 days of her next osteopath appointment.
We were absolutely amazed with each visit!

I know these are both different than your situation, but i hope that an osteopath may help your little one as well,

Good luck and I really hope that all is well with your boy.

This may not be helpful, but when I read your post I thought about it. A friend of mine talked to me about her son a couple of years ago. Her son is now in his twenties. She said she would notice him walking and then end up crawling on the floor bc his legs would give out on him. It turn out that he had crohns disease. Not sure if I spelled that right, but they everything turned out okay, but he has to take meds everyday

Did you ever meet with a geneticist or has he been evaluated for muscular dystrophy? If not that would be one possibility to bring up.

Other than that it sounds like you are doing a great job of supporting him!
Good luck!

Like another poster I also have a friend who the child's doctors couldn't tell her anything and finally someone suggested cerebral palsy and this is what her child has. This child who is now 9 can walk albeit not quite normally. But she is an active girl and a typical 9 year old in other ways.

My daughter didn't walk until 18 months (I know abit before your son) and she was also in physical therapy. It took her some time to gain her confidence and build up the muscles (she was discharged after 2 years of therapy). All her tests were normal too. Her late walking was due to 2 things- congenital torticollis (favoring one side which off-set her balance) and ear infections. Once we got tubes put in she seemed to improve dramatically.
Good luck!

Well, it sounds like you're on the right track with all his programs, and it seems you're taking him to therapy, so that's also good. I don't personally have experience with this, but some good friends of ours had a similar situation. Their son was diagnosed with cerebal palsy. Although, he was not walking at all by this point (and still isn't walking on his own at almost 3.5), but they said he had a mild case and would most likely walk on his own eventually. I'm sure that if you're in contact with professionals already, this topic may have come up and I hope it isn't the case for you, but it might be worth reading about. My only advice is to get a second opinion, if you haven't already, and continue with physcial therapy, etc. Good luck, this must be so tough!
