Hi!
My daughter has always been a good sleeper until recently. 4 months ago we took aawy her paci and it has slowly gone down hill from there. She now is so overtired she has meltdowns, tantrums, hits me, etc. because she is so overtired. It is like her entire personality has changed! It takes her 1-2 hours to fall asleep and will wake up during the night and play in her bed /c she can't get back to sleep! HELP!! Any good books out there or solutions you came up with. I want my ssweet daughter back!! Do I give the Paci back??

Thanks in advance!
L.

I understand you wanting to get rid of the pacci , I was the same with my first 2 kids (3rd never took to one) , but you have to remember that she used this as a comfort for sleeping (this is what you got her used to) , then you just took it away , did you try and replace it with anything else? A special blanket or cuddly toy she loves? At 2 she is a little young to understand the reasons behind why you took it away , I would try and offer something else and if she does not take to it then maybe let her have the pacci back but at sleep time only....but that is my opinion and some other posters will probably tell you not to. You just need to find something that works for her as a comfort.

I'd let her have her paci back at nap/bedtime.. My daughters both have very special blankets that are named. My oldest (7 1/2) grabs her "Magic" blanket at bed time and the thumb goes right into her mouth, By the time she is asleep the thumb falls out. She just needs the thumb/blanky to feel secure.

I would think that a lack of quality sleep is going to be worse for hr development than a paci each night.

My children are currently 5 and 10. We let them keep their paci until they were 3. We tried to take our son's away earlier and he just started sucking his thumb. We didn't want that because that is a harder habit to break, in our opinion.

With our daughter, she sent the Paci to "Paci heaven" by wrapping it up and placing it in the trash can. She sent it away. That idea didn't work at all with our son. Our son was a terrible sleeper from the get go, because of some medical issues. When the paci left we let him sleep with us, if needed. We would lay on the floor next to him until he fell asleep. All the stuff they tell you not to do.

The long and short is don't worry so much about what "they" say, and do what is right for you and your child. If you and she need sleep and giving back the Paci fixes the problem, do it. Try giving it up again in a couple months.

it seems a long time to still be missing the binky. but i'd certainly try giving it back to her just so everyone can rest. what a good baby for just playing in her bed when she wakes up during the night, though!

My son went through the same thing when I finally took his paci away. I ended up laying down with him at night and rubbing his arm to get him to sleep and then slowly weened him off that. Now when he is having a hard time he wants me to lay down with him again, and I am fine with that. If something doesn't work soon I would return the paci for bed only. The "standards" set for "appropriate" ages for ridding kids of pacis or bottles are a good guideline but not set in stone. I believe it is better to let kids progress on their own rather than traumatize them. Good luck.
