He definetly could be-or he's hungry! I would wait a few days longer and see how it goes.....good luck ( he may be ready for cereal)
hello -- I have a beautiful 2.5-month-old son and usually he is pretty good. Sometimes he has his moods, but don't we all? Anyway, all day today he has been crying, sleeping very little and eating a lot. I have noticed that today he has started to chew on his fist and is drooling a little. Also, when I was feeding him his bottle, he was chewing on the nipple at first. I have read that they could get teeth this early, but wanted to know if anyone else experienced this.
Thanks to everyone who sent great advice! I will definately try some methods suggested.
It is nice to know that everyone's in the same boat!

Unfortionatly, they can start the signs and symptoms of teething and still not get teeth for months. My daughters started about the same time and didn't show teeth until aabout 4.5 months old! A.
Yes! My son started showing signs of teething at around 2-1/2 months and it took about 2 months for the first tooth to cut through completely. Hyland's Teething Tablets worked wonders for us! They are homeopathic lactose based tablets that dissolve instantly on the tongue and have ingredients to promote dentation, soothe the crankiness and help with the pain and discomfort. They can be found at most drugstores and at natural food stores that carry homeopathic remedies.
Hi R.,
Kids do things at their own pace. Too bad for us they don't follow the books. I have seen kids born with teeth so don't worry about the "schedule."
I used Peace & Calming on my kids, and still do most nights, to help them sleep. It is an all natural, organic blend of essential oils. Just 1 drop on the feet and they quiet down. I would start there. If that does not work, then I would dilute some clove oil.
I am an aromatherapist and am happy to guide you with these oils. You are welcome to give me a call or send me an e-mail, ###-###-####.

As in all developmental areas, babies are on a continuum...some will develop teeth early, some late. Some will lose teeth later than others, too. We had a fantastic red teether that other moms raved about called Super Yummy. You can find it at www.toysofdiscovery.com. Enjoy your baby boy!
Hi R.,
Yes a 2.5 month old could absolutely be teething. Babies can show teething symptoms for a couple of months before a tooth appears. My first baby got her first tooth at 4 months old and at 2.5 months, she was teething too!
Good luck :)
I have 23 month twins and the "older" one cut his first tooth at 12 weeks - so anything is possible. We thought it was too early to teethe too, but guess not. :) The younger one didn't get his first tooth until 7 months. My pediatrician said 7 months is the average, but it can happen at birth (he's seen it) or even after a first birthday.
R., welcome to motherhood. My oldest son did the same thing and so did my daughter. My daughter who was my first, did it for months, but when the teeth cut through she cut 4 at a time. My son on the other hand started teething at 10 weeks and cut his first tooth a month later. I found that letting them chew on frozen mini bagels helped much better than the teething rings you can buy. By the time my 3rd child came around I was making my own bagels with the help of my daughter, who happens to be the oldest and was 5 at the time. If the bagels start to get soggy you can put them in a bag and refreeze them. Trust me they are a blessing in disguise.

My son wasn't much older when he started doing the same things. He was maybe 4 mos. And he didn't get his first tooth until 9 mos. This stuff is totally normal stuff. A baby explores his world by putting it in his mouth and right now he can only manage his fists. And the more he has in his mouth the more he's gonna drool. With both my kids, they tended to not eat so much when their teeth came in as it hurt to eat. It sounds more like a growth spurt (which he's due for at 3 mos, so get the next round of clothes ready).
R.,
My first child had all of his first year teeth by 5 months old...all of them. So, yes, it can happen. Or they can teeth for months on end before a tooth breaks through.

This sounds like a growth spurt more than teething. It is very unlikely that he will get teeth any time soon, more likely that he is needing to eat more for a few days and he found his mouth so he is experimenting with putting things in it. That is what my son's doc told me when he went through that.
Hi R., Yes he could be teething. My first son started that early and had a tooth by 4 months. Try a teething ring that you place in the fridge. Grandma Mary
Yes I have experienced this and I was nursing him. I started giving him a teething ring and that helped. The one he liked the best was the rings that had water in them and I put them in the refrigerator. I found putting them in the freezer it hurt his hands.
Our pediatrician said that our daughter's gums were swollen (the beginning of teething, apparently)at 2 months. She chomps on everything, and as my husband and I are waiting for teeth any minute, friends have told us that teeth could still be months away!
R., I have three boys and my first one got his first tooth by 3 months of age. Give him Teething Tablets or Teething Gel, but the tablets you know you got it in him whereas the gel if he doesn''t open up might get some on his lips and not the gums. It won't him a bit because it's homeopathic/natural rather than the other things that have chemicals in them. You may want to keep wiping his chin becasue my sons got it so bad that it was red and rash all on their chins because of the drooling so much. Congrats on your beautiful child. I will pray that God will give you the Wisdom you need for your son and we are help to help too.
Hi R.,
It's so funny you posted this question! I also have a son who is 2 1/2 months and I was thinking the same thing!!!! He is drooling a whole lot and wants to chew on everything he can get his little mouth on! My husband and I were wondering if he was teething! So I guess I am not helping to answer your question, just in the same boat! Good luck.
Mine did the same thing from 8 weeks, but no teeth until 5 months. Our doc told us that the tooth buds forming hurt them, just like regular teething. On the other hand, my friend's baby had 3 teeth by 3 months! So either way, it's completely normal!
I didn't find that many things helped my son out. He didn't like cold things, and couldn't hold anything in his own mouth yet. So I gave him a little tylenol, and just held him a lot.
Good luck!
My first two children also teethed early. With my first I wasn't expecting it that early and just thought he was a cranky baby. On his four month birthday I noticed the two bottom teeth had come in. My daughter was the same way. At least now I knew the signs and was able to help her with the discomfort. I gave tylenol and teething rings. She also had her first two teeth in by her four month birthday. My advice is to find what will make your son more comfortable. Sometimes just a cold wash cloth does the trick. I spent plenty of money on teethers that they didn't like. I suggest picking just one or two and seeing what happens.
My son started teething at 9 weeks. But it was a bad day here and there. He didn't cut his first tooth until 4 months. There are some babies who get teeth this young, but most experience an on again off again teething pain for several weeks before they cut their first tooth.
But Rules are meant to be broken....
Good Luck!
Yes they can even be born with teeth!! so teething can start really early! My sister in law just had her second about a month ago and she started teething at 3 weeks!! My son is just over 3 months and has been teething since he was 2 months. He does all the same things you mentioned your son was doing!! Gotta love it when they try to use your nipple as a chew toy ! :) ouch!!! Not much you can really do about it, offer a chew toy.. but if he's like my son, he won't like that either. I find letting him chew on my knuckle appeases him for a little while.
Sounds like your little boy has begun teething. Our son (who is now 7.5 months) began teething at 3 months and did not actually begin to cut any teeth until 6.5 months which were his bottom center teeth.
If he starts to get really cranky you can try the baby orajel though we didn't think that worked and our boy seemed to dislike the flavor. We use Hylands Teething Tablets which are homeopathic and Tylenol Infant Drops.
Unfortunately, its only going to get worse before it gets better. Our son has even begun waking up in the middle of the night sometimes due to pain - he was never one to wake up previously - he has been sleeping through the night since 8 or 9 weeks.
Hi R.
I actually went through the exact same thing with my daughter at the EXACT same time. I thought I was going nuts.
However, my daughter is turning 8 months old on the 15th of this month and I have YET to see a tooth!
I guess the process can take quite some time for some kids.
If your son gets fussy as a result of this, you should try this thing called Gentle Naturals Homeopathic teething drops (or something like that) - there's a picture of Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore on the bottle and you can pretty much get it in a Rite Aid or CVS.
I'm not a real homeopathic person (I'd always prefer Tylenol - hahaa) but frankly that stuff has done the trick for her for literally 5 months!
Take care
A.
