I am glad to see you tried the duct tape thing! I did the same with my daughter. It doesn't cause any harm, and it's easy to rip through when time for a change. Eventually, she'll grow out of that phase too..
Hi!!! I am lost on what to do about this problem? My daughter takes her clothes/diaper off and pees in her crib in the morning. I am tired of washing and changing her bedding on an everyday schedule. What can I do to help her not want to do this?
Thank you ladies!!! I tired the duct tape thing last night for the first time it worked like a charm. We are considering to start potty training her very soon. The only problem is that we don't have the extra money to buy her a new bed right now. So this may take a little longer for us to strat potty training her.

Smart children are a real trip! I would get her into a little bed so she can go potty when she needs to if she's ready for that. If she isn't, she'll probably be more content if she can get up when she awakes in the morning. It sounds like it's about her desire to control her own life, common at this age and a big issue with really smart kids. Mine is a doctor now and mother of 5! She always had to do things her own way!
potty train her and put her in a toddler bed so she can get up and go herself :)
It sounds like she's ready to go on the potty. Maybe making the move to a toddler bed or big girl bed she would get up and go on the potty instead of in her crib?
Sounds like she might be ready for potty training since she clearly does not like to pee in her diaper. Desperate situations call for desperate measures: Duct tape!!
I had a friend who went through this and she simply put her daughters diaper on backwards. That stopped it completely!
I had the same thing happen to a family I nannied for but they also did it with their BM (gross). We did 2 things....1)It told us she didn't like the feeling of being wet and it was time to potty train. We potty trained my daughter at 17 months and haven't had any issues with regression. She is now almost 2. Another idea is to have her wear 2 piece pj's and tape around the waist band of the pj's so she can't get to her diaper. We actually got that idea from their pediatrician. It worked great. Good luck.
I would just put her crib mattress on the floor instead of buying a whole new bed right this minute. Unless you want to hold off on potty training anyway. Put a piece of that stuff you use to keep area rugs from sliding around under it. Bonus that if she rolls out it's all of three inches from the floor.
Have you thought about potty training? I'm guessing she wakes up about the same time every morning, go in just before she wakes up and take her to the potty.
Start offering the potty during the day.
My daughter is too smart for her own good as well (also knows her letters, and shapes). She is 21 months old and just about completely potty trained. She does still wear a diaper at night, but we don't have the issue of her taking it off. She knows we will take her potty as soon as she wakes up.
Why force her to go in a diaper when you ultimately want her to go in the potty? Yeah, it's a little extra effort on your part...but in the end saves laundering the sheets every day.
Just a thought.
You might try putting in her pajamas that zip up, but putting them on backwards. I have heard of doing this for children who always take off diapers during the night. If she can't get to the diaper to take it off, she wouldn't be able to pee all over. Hope this helps.
put feetie pajamas on her backward-- zipper in the back... (they will have a twist in the leg) zip them up and safety pin the top so she cant take them off.
the feety pajams have to be a size too big so there is room for the legs to twist..
my friend did this for her twin boys that were stripping wehn they were supposed to be sleeping..
Hi B., are you in the process of potty training? She sounds ready. Try limiting liquids for two hours before bed, take her to the potty, then mabie a day bed for night time, w/potty chair in room, use the crib for naps. Give rewards for going in the potty. Best of luck to you.
She might be ready to start potty training; I would get her into a toddler bed and buy a potty chair that can sit right on the floor and keep it in the hall, right outside of her bedroom door. I would also put her in pull-ups instead of diapers; they are a bit more absorbent than diapers, especially the night time ones. Good luck!
