I would definitely take him out of the crib or maybe get a crib tent?? The first time my son climbed out of his crib I took it down. He will do it again!
Hey everyone! I have a 22-month-old son who does fine sleeping in his crib and has never (at least not that I know of) tried to climb out of his crib. He was a little off schedule today and when I put him down for his nap he didn't want to nap...which is normal...sometimes for naps it will take 10-15 mins. of crying and he is napping. Well today I put him down and he was crying and about 2-4 mins. later I heard a huge bang and went running in his room and he was laying on the floor crying. I can't get that vision out of my head and am so paranoid that will happen again. Is it time to convert his crib to a toddler bed? I put him down tonight and he fell right asleep and I wake up when he wakes in the morning so I think we are okay today but I am so nervous...
Hey! I converted Trey's crib to the toddler bed yesterday and he did really good sleeping in it last night. And when he woke this morning he yelled "I'm up" and called my name and waited till I came in before getting out. Hopefully it stays this good!!! Thanks for everyone's advice!

My daughter is 17 mos and I had the same thing happen, except I was standing next to her, moved slightly to the right (to put a shirt in her changing table drawers) and BOOM! It only took a second. The next day I bought a toddler bed and she has done extremely well with it - better than she did in the crib. And she has yet to fell out (she isnt a toss n turn kind of sleeper though, so that helps).
Hi M.,
Its time for him to get a bed. I found that a toddler bed is kind of a waste of money and its better to go with a twin bed and put up rails. But if he climbed out once he will do it again. My oldest climbed out before he turned 1 and actually slept better after I moved him to a bed just make sure to put up a baby gate.
Time to convert to a toddler bed!
try just putting a mattress on the floor, then move to boxspring and mattress finally go to regular twin bed, give awhile between adjustments and you can use a railing, this way he wont fall out and he's getting bigger now. It worked great with my two girls. good luck!
I'd say if he can get out of his crib, then there is no use in trying to keep him in it.
Don't feel bad though. This is how a lot of parents find out it's time for a toddler bed. My sister had a similar experience, minus the crying. In the middle of the night, she heard a loud noise and went in her youngest daughter's room to find her standing on the floor with a very confused look on her face as if she couldn't understand how she just got out of her crib.
I'd suggest talking to him about converting his bed first though. Just so it's not a surprise.
Is there anything in the crib that he could have stepped up on to help his "escape" from the crib- i.e.- bumper, stuffed animal, bunched up blanket?
Time for a toddler bed, it is not worth the risk of him falling and getting hurt. Some may say get a crib tent, but he is almost 2 and you really wouldnt use a crib tent for very long. Time for a bed. Have fun!!
Hi M.,
Yes, it's time to convert to a toddler bed. It will save you a lot of worry, and your son just told you he is ready by climbing out of his crib, and falling on his head ! Good thing, our little ones have hard heads- lol ! L.
