21 Month Old Not Running Yet

He has hit all other milestones early or on time. He can climb, walk fast, and do all other things his playmates can do but he doesn't run yet. We try getting him to copy others, guide him, ask him to try running (w/out making him feel inferior or self-conscious), as well as other things. Is is it normal for running to take this long? Thanks for your input!! :). Ps- thought it could be his shoes, but we've tried different kinds, but nothing helps. Thanks ;)

What can I do next?

be careful what you wish for ;-)

I'm sure he'll start running when he wants to.

I wouldn't rush it because once he starts he won't stop!

He still has toddler legs, shorter and not as steady and developed as they will be in a few months. He's considered a preschooler at 2, so you can ask his doctor about it at his 2 year checkup, but I know of no way to make a child run if they don't want to, you know? ;)

Nah, he's fine!! Running takes a lot of control and coordination, so he probably just isn't quite ready yet. Be careful what you wish for - once he starts running, you'll be wishing you never posted this question ;-p.

One thing I've learned as a parent is that there is such a wide array of when a child will accomplish or learn something. I try not to worry about what everyone else's kids are doing and only worry about DD. It really helps not to compare.

I googled and found that it could the window is up through 30 months where running is comfortable to do for a toddler. Sounds like he's fine.

Count your blessings!
In no time at all he'll be running faster than you can catch him and then you'll be worried about how to keep him with you and how to keep him from running into traffic.
He'll be running and skipping anytime now or within the next few months.
He's fine!
