Hi Ladies
need your advice. Last tuesday, 2 year old had trouble breathing and was acting pretty sick...took her in and she tested positive for Enfluenza (even though she was given the flu shot in November) They put her on Tamiflu, a steriod, breathing treatments of Abuterol for the wheezing and antibiotics incase there was a secondarly flare up of phenmonia. The meds were for 5 days and I completed that on Saturday evening. She seemed to be getting better and better however her eating has just been ok...Last night she didnt want to eat at all and just ate 1/2 of a Gogurt and had a low grade fever. This morning, due to the icy storm we are having, Daddy got up with her to get her ready for daycare. When he called, he said she had yellowish green diareah twice this morning, she was acting pretty cranky and just layed around. He brought her to daycare (he didnt call me til just now...had I known she was under the weather I would have stayed home)...so now i am pretty much just waiting for daycare to call me and say she is sick. I am wondering if I should pre-empt a visit to the doc. I am not educated on the FLU because we have always gotten our shots and have never had issues with it. Is it normal for these symptoms to continue 7 days after she tested positive. it almost seems like since the meds are gone that she is getting worse again...any advice is welcome.
P.S. I have a call into the doctors nurses office now for their advice, but have not gotten a call back yet.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Ladies
I pre-empted it and went to pick her up right after I sent this question. I also made a doc appt for 3pm today. She is at home. i think our issue is clearly a mis-communication between daddy and I because right now I am furious with him for putting work before family and not using his brain. I knew the right thing to do was to go get her, I guess I was really asking if I should bring her into the doc or wait a day and review the symptoms. I would hate to be a mom that waits and then it gets soo bad that she needs to be hospitalized. When the nurse called back she said my baby probably is over the flu and caught another virus and a GI bug is going around.

Go get her! If my child went to that daycare and I found out your child was there with the flu I would be one pissed off parent!

If she was on tamiflu she should have been feeling better by now. It's possible she is coming down with another virus. Either way go pick her up don't wait or them to call. Sending a sick child to daycare or school is irresponsible. I know you didn't know but you know now so do something about it!

i'd go get her NOW. she should not be at daycare today if she had a fever last night, out of respect for the other kids and their parents as much as b/c she prob just doesn't feel well - why are you waiting on them to call you? and yes, i'd get her in to the doctor again to have her checked out for a secondary infection. we had influenza b last week as well, thankfully we are all on the mend. hope your little girl gets to feeling better really soon!

As a childcare provider AND mother I say go get her. A child with the flu should not be at daycare exposing the other children as well as the provider. At this point (unfortunately) it's too late, your child has already exposed everyone.... but it's still better to go pick her up to limit the exposure and to cuddle her. Most kids when they are sick just want mommy or daddy anyways. I actually have in my contract that if a parent intentionally brings a sick child to daycare or masks the cold with medications and brings the child, that it is grounds for immediate termination. I'm sure your provider will understand that you didn't know, but you need to go get her. I hope none of the other children or the provider gets sick. :(

We just went through the Influenza A ordeal and it lasted around a week. We all had the vaccination too, but for some reason, this year's flu vaccine didn't cover the main flu that seems to be going around. Bummer. Big bummer! SO, with that being said, it sounds like she is still dealing with illness from it and I would contact the pediatrician's office and tell them what's going on. I would not send her back to daycare until she is truly better. No low grade fever, no diarrhea, etc. Not a good thing to send her when her immune system is compromised to daycare. Plus, she may be putting other kids at risk.

Ok, so with all the junk (drugs) you are giving her, her liver has to process those meds AND the flu virus. That's a HUGE task for a 2 year old's liver. A 2 year old's liver is trying to dump everything, hence the diarrhea.

I give me kids 3 dosages of the Oscillococcinum (1 - 3x/day) if they start to come down with the flu....and it's gone within 2-3 days. We never go the shots, since they contain mercury and the 3 strains they put in there are a guess in the dark, so frequently, they don't work so well.

We also get our kids adjusted by a pediatric chiropractor at the first sign on anything. So, far, they haven't had so much as a runny nose for over a year. You on;y get sick, if your immune system is lowered. My kids are around sick kids and adults all of the time and they never get anything.
