2 Yr Old with Swollen Lymph Nodes in Neck

My 2 yr old has a few swollen lymph nodes on one side of her neck. The biggest is about the size of an almond. She is not sick right now, and hasn't been for a good month. However, she did have the MMR and chickenpox vaccine a few weeks ago and developed a low grade fever from it. The paper they sent home with us said in very rare cases may cause swollen lymph nodes, but it didn't say which ones would be swollen. I assumed the ones under her chin would be since that is what swells when you have mumps. Hers are the ones on the neck where the neck meets the shoulder.
How long until nodes go back to normal? Has this happened to anyone else? The biggest node is movable and fairly soft, but I just wish it would go away! I keep messing with it when she's sleeping, which I know I should not do!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

It has been about a month and the lymph nodes are smaller. They are pea sized now. So it must've been that MMR vax!

Hi! I know how anything abnormal with our kids can bring us a huge dose of anxiety. This incident, most likely, is nothing you need to worry about. Lymph nodes' function is to filter out things in our sysyem that do not belong. Generally, lympth nodes become swollen because they are full of bacteria etc. Vaccinations are low doses of a virus. Your body recognizes it as foreign, builds up an army of antibodies against it and creates memory cells so if you come in contact with the virus again your body is ready to kick its butt. Being that your daughter recently got vaccinations, the nodes are probably just swollen from filtering out the foreign 'stuff'. However, it's probably a good idea to have the doc take a look to be sure and to give you peace of mind : -)

Hi there,
My son gets these in the Spring and the Fall and his are related to allergies. I always freak out when they appear, and always take him into the doctor. They check them and everything is always fine.
We all have those lymph nodes, but because children are so small and have very little fat in that area, we are able to see when those lymph nodes get irritated.
I think it is always best to get things checked out by the doctor, if possible, just for sake of sanity.
Just my experience,
R.

I would take her to see the dr. It does take quite a while for the lymph nodes to go down, up to a few months. Good luck

Leave them alone call her DR. to make sure she doesn't have an ear infection even if she has no other symptoms or since it is getting into allergy season she may developing some allergies your Dr. will be able to tell you what to do for her & give her.
