2 Yr Old Wakes up at 3Am with Soaking Wet Diaper, Etc.

Here's what's happening, about 4 nights of the week, my daughter wakes up understandably upset, because her diaper leaks through and messes up pjs & sheets, blankie, etc. Besides the pain we go through changing crib and all at 3am, it takes her a while to settle down and go back to sleep (last 2 nights, she has been up for good!). Here's what we've tried: 1 sippie w/ dinner and nothing later than 6:30 (she's asleep by 7pm), we've introduced the potty so we let her sit on that before bed (sometimes she goes, most times does not) + we are making sure a new diaper is on before she goes down. Any other advise of what we can try? Is our next attempt to wake her up in advance to go potty/change diaper, say at 2am, hoping to head off the mess that's happening at 3am? Would a larger size diaper or nighttime diaper help (she's in a 4 now)? Sleepless nights are adding up for mom & dad, so I'm open to suggestions. Thanks, all! :)

What can I do next?

I use cloth, so I haven't actually tried this suggestion but my mother in law swears by it. She says, double diaper them at night. First diaper has a slit or hole cut into it to let some of the fluid leak into diaper number 2 which is obviously intact. I'm not sure if this would actually work or if the little gel absorbers would leak out of the diaper that is cut. This is advice from when she had kids, more than 25 years ago.

Another thought is, you could get a couple of cloth diapers and use insert doublers. That is what we do and we don't have any leaks ever. I love our cloth diapers (bum genius 2.0). Our daughter is only 1 but she doesn't leak and is a big drinker. We even still give her drinks throughout the night if she wakes up, since she has stopped nursing. If you want to check out this option go to www.wildflowerdiapers.com they are based out of scottsdale so you can actually go to talk to the owner if you need to. Good Luck!

Limit the afternoon drinks, what kind of diapers are u using? I would recommend pampers, and or the huggies nightime pullups. They work really good.

Well the good news is that is sounds like she is well hydrated :-) Maybe you could try offering her more to drink during the morning and early afternoon and the limit her to nothing to drink after dinner. How is her weight for her diaper? Maybe the next size diaper or a pullup would help. I agree with you about changing her at night, if nothing else works, but you might try changing her around 11 or 12 o'clock and see if that gets her through the night. Be aware, she might be 'unhappy' about being woken up to change her, or she might sleep through it. A friend told me to put a water proof pad down, with a towel over it and then a sheet that tucks under the mattress (Like on a hospital bed). It worked great for accidents, you just pull it off instead of changing the whole bed.

Going to a larger diaper may help. My daughter was waking up with a leaking diaper and wet pjs in morning when she was about 20 months old. (She is now almost 2 and 1/2) We switched from a size 4 to a 5 and she was fine.

I would go up a size in the diaper. Try stopping liquids on hour before bed time and at that time do a warm shower or bath. It help stimulate them to potty. Then after she goes then apply a clean dry diaper on size bigger than what she is in. There is also Plastic shorts that go over diapers and that will help with the diaper leaking onto her. Try this out and I hope it works for you. I did the bath time and no drinks at least an hour prior to bed time.
