My son fell out of his bed last night and starting gagging right when he sat up this morning. Halfway through breafkast he threw up. We all had the stomach bug a few weeks ago so I think its wierd that he has it again so soon. Could he have gotten a concusion just from falling out of bed? What does the doctor do about concusions?

I would get him to the emergency room unless the pediatrician can see him immediately. And even then, the ped. may say to go to the ER. In fact, I hope you aren't reading this because you are already at the doctor's or the hospital. This could be as simple as a stomach bug or as serious as a concussion but we have NO way to tell over the internet. Please update us!

Yes. He can get a concussion from falling out of bed if he hit his head.
Take him into the Urgent care and get him checked out. They take XRAYS to make sure all is well. They will tell you how to handle his particular situation.
If he were my son, I'd call the doctor's office and pick their brains. I wouldn't want to take a chance. It could just be the "bug," but why not check it out to be sure?
Geez! What relief you must feel! You did the right thing going to the doctor. Better to be safe than sorry.
I wouldn't "wait and see", because with a concussion there can be a brain hemorrhage, swelling, etc. The doctor will look for signs of this and treat accordingly. If he see something he will do a scan to see what's going on inside. It really depends...
J., did he fall out of bed because he was gagging, or did he start gagging because he fell out of bed? How far is the bed from the floor? Did he hit his head? Is there a lump?
If you can't tell, I would take him to urgent care to see if they can determine if there is a concussion.

He doesn't have the bug, I would take him to the doctors to get checked out.
Call your pediatrician now. As Cheryl has said vomiting is a sign of concussion. Don't wait any longer.

yea he could have a concussion. my daughter got one at 3 and since by the time she was at the er the symptoms were going away, no more vomiting, and no more sleepiess, and she was able to complete the tests the drs. recomended agnst a scan of the brain saying that its linked to increased chance of cancer if you get it that little and that they only use it when the risk is worth it and symoptoms are presents of something more serious than a typical concussion. they said J. keep an eye on her and follow all directions for healing from a concussion oer the next few weeks. J. a fyi...i didnt realize it could cause cancer and i'm not a dr, so i may be wrong but thats what the er docs told M.. i'd take him in the the dr or er to get checked
YES he could have gotten a concussion. I clicked on your question and first thing I thought just reading your title was concussion. Possibly - he has the flu or what-ever and it's coincidental that he fell out of bed same time he has the flu. But I wouldn't risk it. Do you know where he hit when he hit the floor? His head? Maybe he landed on a hard toy right at his abdomen? If he can't keep any food down, then there is a major problem.
Not sure if the doctor can take care of this at the office. He may recommend you go to the ER. My 1 yr old nephew had similar symptoms your son did (fell, was throwing up), they went to the ER. Don't remember what tests they ran and all, but they were there a while.

It is always a good idea to get anything checked out in my opinion, especially if there is vomitting. My husband makes fun of me, has a whole list of names for me but after my daughters sleigh riding stunt lastyear in which she managed to hit a mound of ice in the snowbank, she is still under the care of a pediatric neurologist for blood trauma to the brain. We all have our own opinions of things & trust me, if there is a child that should be glowing from the amount of radiation she has been exposed to w/all of the x-rays she has had, mri's, ct scans, you name it, she's had it, it would be my 13 yr old. I'd rather take the chance....the one in a bazillion chance of cancer then to jeapordize something else! Best of luck to you with your son and I'm sure that things will be fine.

If he's not in a toddler bed by now then you might want to consider skipping it and moving him to a regular bed. The mattress can be put on the floor until you are more secure with the whole idea and his safety. He is really too old for a toddler bed now so I think if he's still in a baby bed I'd move him to the floor on a regular mattress. If he is already moved then of course ignore this note...lol.
Just so you know, there is pretty much nothing you can do for a concussion but let them rest. Also, the symptoms are more serious the younger the person is. We had two concussions in a month here a couple of months ago, so I've been down this road already. They will do a CT scan, maybe an MRI, but will probably not find anything serious. They might give him anti-nausea meds if the vomiting continues. Other than that, they will tell you to look for certain signs of it getting worse. Also, you can expect some dizziness, confusion, and lack of energy, which is all normal.
Keep him quiet as much as you can, do restful calming activities and let him nap as much as he needs to. These things seem scarier than they really are. I hope he feels better soon.
