Hi Mommas, I really need your wisdom.
1. Last Sunday and Monday my 2 yo son had a high fever and diarrhea.
2. Tuesday, fever was down, but Tuesday nite he woke up a few times crying. I thought there were nightmares and succeeded in snuggling and comforting him back to sleep.
3. Wednesday nite his crying was unconsolable. I called the dr. She said to give Tylenol/Advil etc and if he did not stop crying after 30 mins to take him to the hospital. He went to sleep after 45 but woke up after 30 crying, so we went to the hospital.
4. At the hospital, they tested his urine, ears...but nothing.
5. FRiday nite, he woke up crying a few times as well. I comforted him back to sleep.
6. Spoke to dr. again today. She said maybe worms. I looked. I saw a bit of white stuff, but unsure, so we will see her tomorrow.
7. There is no crying during daytime naps.

Any advice? Wisdom? I am nervous about another difficult nite for him.

Thank you. Jilly

So What Happened?

Dear All, Thanks for advice. Saw dr. just now first thing. She said probably worms given the crying pattern. (only for certain same hours at nite) So she advised one dose of medicine today and one dose in 10 days. she said the medicine has no negative side effects and should be OK. Will update.

Jilly,
We recently went through a number of night wakings with our 2.5 y/o daughter. It seems that my rocking her before bed, not to sleep, had thrown her off to where she wanted rocking when she woke up at night. I don't know how we got to that point so quickly, since it was maybe a week of 5 mins of rocking before bed. Apparently she was hooked though. It may be that the soothing when he was sick is something that he's wanting now.
We broke the cycle by sending my husband in to check on her in the night, since she wants mommy and also not rocking before bed. Good luck.

My little sister used to do that when she was about that age...turns out that she was literally having growing pains while she was sleeping and it was waking her up. Is he going through a growth spurt or perhaps in the beginning of one?

Nightmares possibly. Sometimes an illness disrupts their sleep cycles.
Just comfort him and hopefully he will eventually sleep thru again. Just
be patient. Good luck.

Hi Jilly,

He could be teething. Check his mouth to see if the back spots are swollen. The first full set of teeth are 20 in total, 10 on the top and 10 in the bottom. As you know teething can be very painful and give mild fever and diarrhea.
Hope that helps and that you son is feeling better now.

Best

when your baby gets sick it takes awhile before they go back to normal routines, and sometimes the routine will have a new normal.
Just keep him hydrated and comfortable, I feel like it will soon pass and is just residual from whatever caused his fever and diahrea earlier in the week.
Seems like flu to me, and there really isnt anything you can do except comfort him through it. You know how your body aches when you are sick. He only knows to cry when he feels yucky. Poor baby.
