My two year old has been sleeping in his own room for quite a few months now and he goes to bed on his own (kisses us goodnight rolls onto his side and falls asleep). For the past few days he has been waking up two to three times during the night wanting to come to us. I have to go in and talk to him tell him that its still night time and that he has to go back to sleep. Which he does, only to wake up again in an hour and do the same. Anyone know why this might be happening? I dont think its his teeth btw.

What can I do next?

Anything new going on in his life? Have naps changed? Keep TV watching to pre-dinner and make sure his bedtime routine includes time to relax; a warm, quiet bath, no roughhousing, a rubdown with night time lotion is nice, and a story or two.

Being overtired can also cause this so if he's not getting enough sleep you may want to tweak his bedtime and up it by 30 minutes. Also a light snack with some carbs or calcium before bed may help him to sleep through the night; like a slice of whole wheat toast with a bit of peanut butter on it, a small cup of cottage cheese with some banana diced on top, a cup of milk or yogurt.

Hope he goes back to sleeping all night soon!

Night terrors???? He's a bit young but all kids are different. Is he scared when he wakes up?
Try 'monster spray' it can be anything including plain water in a trigger spray bottle. You just have to convince him that monsters can't cross where you sprayed. I would spray under the windows, by the doorway and around the bed.

We went through this too. It was just a phase and it ended about a month after it began. Kids go through some weird stuff!

maybe you have changed the powder you wash his cloth or sheets in it. Some parfume is disturbing for the toddlers. Please no dryer sheets.
Maybe you put a t-shirt in his bed from you that you have worn for a few nights, that helps our 2 year old.
Whishing you the best he has soon his old routine.

I agree with Kristen. My son did this too. He goes through phases. Unfortunately I'm not a very nice mommy in the middle of the night. Especially when he won't go back to sleep. We bought a child-proof doorknob to put on his side of the door. Now he may wake up at night, but he soothes himself back to sleep because he know he can't open the door.
