Hello
My little man I belive is about ready to start to potty train (even if he not I still need some help LOL) He just turned 2 on the 17th well a few weeks prior he started to take his shorts and his diaper off in his bed and then he would have an accadent, now he has started to do it during the day as well, I'm getting tired of washing sheets and any time I say lets use the potty he says his cute little no and I've read not to force them, how can I get him to go on the potty???Just now as I was typing this I thought we had hit a break thru, he took off his diaper so I rushed him to his potty and said that he needed to go pee in the potty and he did I got so excited and happy we even woke up daddy to tell him, so after we flushed the pee and put on a new diaper he not 5 minutes later took it off, so I repeated it but then he started to whine about being on the potty?? what am I to do??

My son is 2 1/2 yrs old and I had to potty train him because it was just too expensive to buy two packs of diapers (bulk size) every 3 weeks. I also have a 3 month old. So I pushed the issue and now he is potty trained it took 3 weeks. Two weeks of staying at home, going absolutely nowhere, and the last week going out- getting him used to being out and having to use the restroom. However, I still put a diaper on him at night. And I put his chonies (underwear) near his bed so when he wakes up he knows he's supposed to take the diaper off and he puts the chonies on then goes straight to the potty and pees. Over the past 3 weeks he pee peed twice in his diaper during the night. When we are out n about I put pull ups on him. Thus far, no accidents while out.

I know lots no tons of people will say not to push the issue but I really needed to get him out of diapers. And don't get me wrong, at home he occasionally has his accidents. I just let him know I am very disappointed in him.

Hope this helps. -Tam

If you really think he is ready- Put him in underwear and make him keep it on a while when heis wet. I would go into a lot more detail- but had surgery today and am one-handed. Connor was potty trained in one day. Look at my profile.. a few days ago I tped up what I did for someone. Good lucj!

let him pick out a toilet seat that fits on the big toilet but made for little kids and maybe he'll want to use the potty than and be more excited. but don't push him my little boy wasn't potty trained until a week before his 3rd birthday and i think we have had about 2 or 3 accidents since!! and also let him pick out his new underwear too!!!

I would say don't push the issue and just stop for right now. He is only two and it seems like he doesn't quite get it yet. I tried to potty train my lil girl at 2 (right when she turned 2) but she wasnt ready and i was getting frustrated and so was she. Now at 30 months we just started the process and she is now kinda getting the hang of it even though we only have a few successes every now and then but hey, its a start....

I responded the other day as well. I am not sure if my son is totally ready. My plan is to make a conscious effort with him, yet not push him too hard and see how it goes. My son was 2 in January...

FYI if you are looking for cute underwear and a lot of choices, Kohl's is the best. I was disappointed with the selection at Target and Walmart. Kohl's has every Disney Character, Bob the Builder, Elmo, and more. They are also doing buy one get one 1/2 off this week.

Good luck! Feel free to let me know how it's going.

I have found that dressing themselves is more of an indicator of pottying readiness than undressing. He's probably just undressing because he can not because he has a dirty diaper or wants to use the potty. You can certainly train him now, but you're probably going to be doing more of the work, rushing him to the toilet etc. I prefer to wait and have the process be more in the control of the child.

He may not be ready, just excited that he can take his diaper off. Two is pretty young for potty training boys. Household trick: duct tape!!!! I had the same problem with my boys. I had to duct tape their diapers. I also had a kid in my daycare that I had to do the same thing with. We worked on potty training, but eliminated the diaper removal problem. The last thing wou want is him taking his diaper off and smearing poop everywhere, trust me!!!!!!!!

Note: The older twin I said "no more diapers" on his third birthday. He sat on the toilet every hour for a week and I woke him up once during the night to pee and it only took one week to potty train. The younger twin was four when he was potty trained we tried everything! He finally made the decision on his own. Not every kid can be manipulated!

(Last note: The younger twin could dress and undress himself before he was two. That was not an indicator for us. He just has exceptional fine motor skills)
