I swear it's always something! My saying her mouth hurts and she's pointing to the left side where her teeth are. She has all her teeth so she's not teething. I looked in her mouth and I think I see a red spot on her tongue and maybe some blisters in her inner lip but I'm not positive where the pain is coming from. What do I do or give her. When she eats she complains it hurts and she doesn't even want her paci (shocking!). Would motrin help? Please help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I called her pedi and although she doesn't have all the symptoms they want to treat it like hand foot and mouth. The school sent a kid in her class home yesterday with hand foot and mouth so it is possible that's it. The pedi recommended a 1/2 tsp of maalox for the mouth sores so hopefully that helps and we can all rest tonight! You all were right on point with your suggestions! Thanks for your help

Sounds like hand foot mouth.

We had it a long time ago - let's see.... (very contagious) not the end of the world though just very painful when mouth sores are present. Our dr. recommended for discomfort to mix equal parts of liquid benadryl and that white antacid stuff - malox?? Then take a qtip and dip it in there then dab it on the sores. If she swallows a little, it won't hurt her but this isn't for drinking - it's just to help w/discomfort. (If the child was older they could gargle with the mixture but she is too young for that).

Hope this helps.

Make sure she is brushing her teeth correctly. Motrin probably not hurt anything. I would try it. May be her tongue hurts. You said, you saw a spot on her tongue. It probably would be irritated by eating something. May be she bit it? Have her rinse with some salt water 3 times a day for the next few days along with motrin and see if it helps. It is good she does not want her paci. May be she is ready to give it up. Good luck

Call the doctor and make an appointment....in the meantime motrin should help with the pain from whatever it is.

My first thought is 2 year old molars. My second thought was maybe she brushed too hard and hit the side of her mouth funny. But my third thought, since you mentioned blisters... call the doctor!! Do YOU know where the blisters came from? If not, yeah, call the doc asap, because that's not right.

Hope she feels better soon!

Look at the roof of her mouth. HFM will make a pattern of circles on there. Maybe it's an ulcer on her tongue? (and those DO really hurt!)

Does she have a swollen taste bud? Does she have mouth ulcers from eating too much acidic food (like orange juice, pinapples, strawberries). Has she been eating really abrasive food like Fruit Loops? Those could all be causes of mouth pain.
