My 26 month old son seems only to want Peanut butter sandwiches which is fine by me but he is eating 2 of them a day and some oranges or banana with them. It seems like they might be making him constipated though. He really like only the mushy foods so I'm not sure what else to give him at daycare that is easy for him to eat on his own without making a huge mess. The only other thing that seems to work is appple sauce but they dont like to give it to him at school because it is messy. Is there anything else?

What can I do next?

Have you tried mac and cheese, avocado, Pirates Booty, Gerber Graduates stuff. Those are some things that our little guy used to like that had texture issues. Hope that helps.

My boys were the same way...I was concerned and asked the pediatrician. He told me not to worry that their healthy and following nicely on the growth charts, but he did suggest giving then a multivitamin daily. Also, I had a friend how introduced my kids to peanut butter and honey sandwiches (the boys were only about the peanut butter sandwiches before this as well). When I make the sandwiches I'll sometimes sneak in a little wheat germ as well. I will also give 'em pedi-sure drinks. What about trying some of those to-go yogurts?

Is this all he eats at all during the day or just at school for lunch?
If it is just lunch he is eating this and getting lot's of fluids during the day and other foods at the other meals I doubt that is what is causing it.
Make sure they let him drink throughout the day! That is a big help to prevent it. I think some daycares forget how important they drink on and off as they like at that age.

If you only provide him what he wants or his favorite, can I say you are setting yourself up big time. Do not just give him what he wants as that will end up a very short list and he will get very picky! If this is all he will eat I suggest at breakfast and dinner you start trying to get him to broaden his scope of what he will eat. I cook one thing and that is it, they can eat it or not, their choice. I can say they have things they don't like, that is fine, but they are to always try something before they say they won't eat it! :) He will not starve, promise!

Offer other things, flavors and spices, not just his favorites, he is to try them at least one or two bites and keep exposing him to it! :)

Try yogurt, mac and cheese (even cold it can be good) too, continue offering more texture to his diet, try turkey cheese rollups instead of Peanut butter, roll in a tortilla. I will prebake chicken nuggets sometimes as my son likes them cold at his school for lunch and I give him a tiny container of ketchup. Even dry cereals like Kix, Chex or cheerios in a container for him to eat.

I would stress to your daycare tough if they don't like applesauce I am sure you pay them enough that if you want your son to have applesauce that is your choice not theirs! I don't think I would be too happy about them telling you that they don't like "messy" he is two! Of course he is going to be messy.

You're OK with having such a limited diet? Really? At least some multi-vitamins should be in there somewhere....Hmmmm, by 12 mo's my kids were eating the exact same things I was; kids have sophisticated taste buds, its us parents that tend to limit them.

By 26 mo's he should really be eating just about anything you put in front of him, at least to try it. Of course he's going to have preferences, as we all do, but he should be trying all sort of new things by now.

My advice would be to make dinner for yourself, cut up small portions for him and thats what he gets for dinner. I'm assuming you're not eating cheerios for dinner though ;-) GL.

Gogurt in tubes - my kids like them frozen, applesauce in individual containers- comes in different flavors - cinnamon, berry, strawberry,- mandarin oranges, fruit cup in light syrup, not heavy syrup, french toast sticks (make your own, much healthier), mac and cheese, cream cheese and jelly sandwiches, grilled cheese sandwiches, queasadillas with cheese and chicken.

Also, I agree with others that leftovers from anything they like at dinner are great for lunch.
