2 Year Old Bites Nails

My son (2 yrs old) bites his nails. He'll just sit there and chew. A few are so bad that part of the nail bed is showing. I'm not sure what to do. Has anyone else had this and what have you done? He's not an anxious kid, but I was also a nail biter when I was a kid.

What can I do next?

he may be learning it from your behavior if you still bite
I am a nailbiter and a early one at that and i have also seen my son do it
when you do see him doing it ask him why he may be doing it without knowing it
If the behavior continues you know how painful and bad it looks
talk about your experiances and help him learn not to bite

Nail biting deterant QUICK! like Mrs. B says, and put it on while he is sleeping so he won't like getting his nails painted! be consistant with applying it, and he will stop. may find other things to chew on though so be ready for that...break out some of his old teething rings if he does do this and make sure you keep them clean, washing them often, Don't want him catching the foot, mouth, hand disease!

My daughter is 4 and has been doing this consistently. The only good thing about it is that I don't need to trim them...ever. I also NEED to get her to stop, and the PP that mentioned explaining how gross it is won't work. It kills me when she bites her nails in places where there are a bunch of kids, ewww germs! I try to keep them painted, perhaps a clear bitter coat for your son. Most stores have it. Good luck!

I put socks on my kiddos hands.

He's 2. Talking and explaining why he shouldn't just isn't going to work.
