I had my son's 2,3 & 4 year old parties beginning at 3:00. That way kids could come refreshed after naptimes, ready to have some fun. Then simple hot dogs around 5, then cake, gifts, and time to go home!
What is a good time of day for a 2-year-old's birthday party? We can't decide between 11ish (before naps) or 5ish (after). What worked for you?
Thank you so much for all your input! I really appreciate it!
After reading all your suggestions and talking it over with my husband, we decided to go with a morning party, from 10 to 12.
Thanks again!

5ish sounds awfully close to tantrum time for a lot of toddlers. If any kids nap too early or too late that day, or miss it altogether, they'd melt down for sure. Late morning sounds ideal. If I were invited to a party from 11-1, I'd assume there would be lunch, but if the invitation said 10-12, I'd assume it's not lunch. It would be nice to make it clear to people on the invitation. Also, if you want people to RSVP, you should say "Respond by (date)" and put your number and e-mail address. Very few people RSVP anymore, which is really frustrating when you are trying to plan a party! Good luck and have a great time :)
For me it's always been easier to schedule something between meals, so I can save time and money by serving snacks instead of a meal...
Me and most of my friends did 10-12, worked very well. Like someone said, they're well rested and can get home before naptime.
If you have it in the a.m., be prepared for some people not to come. I wouldn't be able to get my kids ready and out of the house before 11am, nor would I want to on my weekend.
Also consider that you'd have to have the house all ready and the kids fed/dressed before then. So how much time would you need? I usually need until at least 2 or 3pm.
So, I would personally opt for the afternoon.
We are morning people, so I would say morning. Five p.m. is sooooo close to bath/bed time. I wouldn't want to give my kids sugar that late.
I think earlier is better. When my son turned two, we did his party from 10-12. We are doing the same thing this year for this 3rd birthday because it worked out so well.

http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/karenchao - great bday presents for kids of all ages!
We just did this last weekend and I set the time for 4pm and it worked out well.
The earlier the better, they are less tired and in a good mood. If you are looking for a party company call Butterfly Dreams, theme parties for kids,
for a 2 year old, they usually do a princess visit, games and they bring every thing to your home. look at their website at www.ButterflyDreamsParty.com or call ###-###-####.
we did 4-6, but i should have done 430-630
that way the kids had pizza for dinner and then everyone went home and it was close to bedtime!!!
earlier is better - 10:30 or 11:00.
I am about to do my daugther's b-day who is turning 3 and I am doing it at 11:30 before nap time. She is in a much better mood and after all the fun she will be put to nap. Have a wonderful b-day party!
We had ours from 10-12. That way everyone could be home for lunch and naps. I had several parents tell me how great it worked out for them!
We had good luck with 10-12. First thing in the morning, when they are well rested from a full night of sleep.
We just had our daughter's second birthday party from 11-1 and it worked out great! We served sandwiches and veggies with dip, fruit salad, pretzels, water and juice boxes, and cake. The kids loved it and it was just the right amount of time to eat, play a couple games (pin the princess on the castle LOL and a pull-string pinata), have cake and open presents, and send everyone home in time for naps. Have fun!!
