Good Morning Moms!

I have a two part question for you, first off I was wondering if any of you put your crib bumper back in after taking it out?? We took ours out at about 3 months when my daughter started to wiggle around and I woke up one night and her face was in it. (we did not buy the breathable bumper) she is fine, but needless to say it was gone after that. She is 6 months old now and rolling all over when she sleeps also getting little limbs stuck in the bars, should I put it back in? I think she is old enough to know to pull her face away if she can't breathe. What are your thoughts?

Also, Our daughter has been eating rice cerial sense 2 months old (Dr. recommended) Now she is eating 1st foods from a spoon once a day for about the last 2 months. (we give her an ounce less with her bottle at dinner and then some fruit or veggies) But I think we need to up it to twice a day, any advice on what you did, or what your feeding schedules are or were? She is 6 months old, and a very good eater!

Thanks so much!!

What can I do next?

most recommendations i see are to take the bumpers out by this time, so that the baby cannot use it to climb on...if you put it back, take it out as soon as she can stand.

others are right that most nutrition comes from breastmilk or formula, but the solids at this time are just to get used to eating, and different tastes. you should ask your dr., because it would depend on her weight, etc. if you do increase to two meals per day, i would feed the solids after the bmilk or formula, to be sure she is drinking enough. it's hard to remember, but i think that i was doing solids with my daughter twice per day at that time. it also helps to get her on a routine, so that at one year, she's not all of a sudden going to three meals a day!

My kids had bumper pads in their cribs. They still do at 3 years and 20 months.

My 20 month old likes tosleep on his back with his head next to the bumper pad.

It also keeps pacifiers from falling out of th crib at night.

I would not increase the solids.

All of the nutrition for the first year comes from formula or breastmilk.. baby food is just practice for eating later.

Keep her on 1 meal a day for at least another month.

Just because she started solids early doesnt mean that she is ready to advance her diet early.

Go ahead and put a bumper back on, but purchase one of the "breathable" bumpers. They're available at Babies R Us and other stores. That way, you don't have to worry about suffocation, and her arms/legs won't get stuck! :-)

Hi- My son is 6 months, too, and I just put his crib bumber in because he can roll over and is very strong- so I am not worried about suffocation.

In regards to feeding, I only give veggies and cereal at one feeding (usually about lunch time) and the rest I nurse or bottles with breastmilk when he is at daycare. They should be getting most of their nutrition in breastmilk or formula until about 1 year- so no need to feel like you should be feeding more solid food.

I'm not sure why your doctor recommended you start solids at 2 months, but I would advise against continuing or upping the amount you give her just yet. All of her nutrition for the first year should come from breastmilk or formula. Rice cereal and the like are just empty calories, used to "fill up" baby. It doesn't make sense to me - baby needs calories to grow, not to feel full! So just keep doing what you're doing. Offer her food but if she's not interested just go with the flow. :)
