My son will be 5 late November. I still use a pull up at night. He wakes dry only about 2 or 3 mornings a week. He is a very sound sleeper and will sleep 10 to 12 hours without waking. What can I do to get him out of pull ups?

The other thing is what do you ladies feel about boxers or breifs for you young boys?
Thanks!!!!

What can I do next?

Some kids just cannot physiologically hold it all night until they're older. 6, 7 even 8 is not uncommon. I somewhat agree with limiting liquids before bed, but, then again, if his body really just isn't ready--why punish him (or yourself)? Don't put too much stock in this common problem. He's fine.

My son is 7 and he likes boxer briefs! (So does my hubby. Coincidence?)

I don't have any advice on the pull ups because my kids never wore one. I never purchased any. I do understand that it takes some kids longer to get the swing of things at night, but all the kids I know who wet at night longer had pull-ups. I know kids can be heavy sleepers and have accidents, but if they have pull-ups, they also don't have to worry about learning to hold it or waking up to go pee.
Cut liquids out before bedtime and try not using pull ups. There may be some accidents, but knowing they don't have on a pull up might help trigger the hold it or get up response. It just takes practice.

As for boy undies...I think the greatest are cotton boxer briefs. They stay in place better under clothes and my son found them much more comfortable. Through trial and error, he liked them the best.
I'm pretty small and I came across some boxer briefs that my son had long outgrown. (At 15, he's much bigger than me). They were still in the pack, he'd never worn them and I tried them on. I wear little boys Hane's boxer briefs. I admit it. They fit my waist, they don't ride up, no panty lines.
Boxer briefs are the bomb!

If you don't already, don't allow him to drink anything 2 hours before bedtime and make sure he pees right before bed.
My son wears briefs and boxer briefs. I don't like boxers on boys or men. I think just like us women need bras support, men need some kind of support also. My son prefers to wear boxer briefs cause he likes to be like Daddy.

My neice wore a pull up/adult diapers until she was 12. Learning to be dry at night is not something he can control. Its not fun to wake up wet and would love to wake up dry every day! Their bodies need to mature enough for them to wake up and realize they need to go. You can try limiting water before bed, bed wetting alarms, etc but until his body is ready, it won't work.
As for the underwear, I let my son wear what he wants. He choose boxers.

Kids may not stay dry at night until up to age 6 so your son is well within normal limits. Nighttime dryness has nothing to do with daytime dryness. The body has to be physically able to either wake to urinate at night or be able to hold it all night. Also, the body has to produce a hormone that aids in nighttime dryness. Both of these issues come with time.

If at age 6 he's still not dry at night then it's time to rule out any medical issues, possibly look at the wetness alarms, etc but for now give his body time to mature and grow.

As far as undies, my almost 6 year old has both but he does better with briefs just because he always forgets to pull the boxers down smooth and they wind up bunched up around his waist lol!

My daughter was the SAME way, just a HEAVY sleeper. We cut off her liquids by 7, except for a tiny bit of water when brushing her teeth. We also got her up around midnight to make her go. She started to get up on her own about a week into it, so she was done ith pull-ups at that point. But it took us getting up to get her up and make her go. And she would go to the bathroom basically asleep, but now she goes all the tme on her own.

And my two little guys wear boxers, unless they find some super cool Transformer or Handy Manny type underwear they want to wear instead ;o). Good luck!
