2 Part Question

I tried Lexapro and was tired all the time so my doctor switched me to Celexa and it works great. I just went back on it after being off of it for over 5 years.

I can't help you with the Mirena question.

i just got the Mirena 6 wks ago and i love it. The insertion wasn't bad and afterwards i didn't fell any different. I did however have my period for 20 days. and then again for 6 but it was really light. So hopefully i'm done with that. I would recommend it!!! IF you have any questions feel free to email.

I have been on lexapro twice. I hate it! I thought i would give it a second chance, but never again. I completely lose my sex drive and gain weight. It does not help with the depression. I do understand though that it works differently for each individual. Also, i stopped it cold turkey and got extremely sick!

I am currently on Lexapro and this is my second time being on it. I really like it. It seems to work for me without the sexual sides I have had with the others. I do sometimes feel more down when PMS gets closer. But I was really at a low point and it came through for me.

The IUD I also have. I killed right after it was inserted. I remember driving home and crying. It was such sharp cramps. They subsided after a day. I do get bloated right around my perid which I still get but only enough to be a nuisane. Never heavy or even enought for more than a panyliner. I do like it better than pills with seemed to effect my weight even though the drs swears they don't. And my mood swings are better but that may be the lexapro. I like having the lighter periods. During intercourse though not to be too personal I feel it being pushed against something and it is very uncomfortable. But that subsides too.

hi C., i do have the merina, and have had it for three yrs. for me it was only a little pinch when it was inserted. i had discharge for about 2 months but no bleeding, no cramping either. after reading the other responces, i guess everyone is different. i didnt get mine for birth control i got it to stop my bleeding, i hemmoraged for 6 weeks for no reason. i had to try the merina or get a full hysterectomy to stop the bleeding. im sooo glad i got it put in. the only way i no i have my cycle is i get a little acne on my face, which i got normally with my cycle. i love it n it was the best thing i could of done. if u have any questions plz feel free to email me.

In response to your question about Lexapro. I was on Lexapro at one point in my life and can honestly say it was an Anti-Depressant with very little side effects for me. It took the edge off without giving me that "fuzzed" feeling. And it was a med that didn't take me long to ween back off of. I have a friend that has tried others and they make her want to drink, she gets very aggitated, and just doesn't help...then she needs to go on a stronger dose, etc. I hope this helps and you find the peace you long for. I was on Lexapro for over a year ending about two years ago. The med. REALLY helped with my anxiety, depression, and slight OCD. I would definitely recommend this drug to anybody with a prescription but contemplating whether to go ahead with treatment. Actually, I'm thinking about going to speak with my doctor again as many of my symptoms are returning. I stopped taking Lexapro due to insurance issues and because I was going to begin trying to get pregnant. From what I understand the effects of taking antidepressants like Lexapro while pregnant are not entirely known. While Lexapro is a fairly mild medication and I never spoke to my dr. about continueing the med. while pregnant, I know my husband would not like the idea even if allowed by the dr. Following the birth of my daughter I had no symptoms and actually felt the best I had felt in a long time in regards to anxiety, depression, and OCD. Now that some of my symptoms are returning I am thinking about going back to my dr. to discuss continueing treatment, hopefully with Lexapro. I had no side effects and it did its' job.

I've never been on Lexapro but I did get the Mirena about six weeks after my son was born. It was uncomfortable to the point of almost being painful when it was put it and I had cramps and spotting for about three months after that. It can also lead to increased acne and a harder time losing weight, as it did in me. However, I recommend it to everyone I talk to about birth control. After the initial adjustment period that my body went through, it's been wonderful. My last period was in January 2007 and I haven't had so much as a cramp or spot since then. My doctor told me that this is one of the good side effects I could hope for and it's perfectly safe. Its completely undetectable when I have sex and it's a huge relief not having to think about remembering to take the pill everyday.

I haven't had personal experience with either. However, my friend had the IUD. She had a very hard time with it. It perforated through and ended up lodged in the lining of her intestines where it had to be surgically removed. The first time she went to the emergency room, they pretty much dismissed her pain as normal. The second time the doctor told her she was a hypochondriac. When she came back again, they finally ran some tests and found out what it was. She was lucky that it didn't actually perforate her bowels. So was the hospital.

Anyhow, this is supposed to be a very rare occurrence. I don't want to scare you with this posting. I just want to emphasize that if it doesn't feel right, call your doctor. They should tell about how much pain is normal and when you should be feeling better. You know your own body better than anyone else and if it doesn't feel right then seek help.

I was on Lexipro for about 2 months then switched to Zoloft. I was dealing more with "anxiety" than depression. My counselor told me that I may do better on Zoloft b/c it has a more "sedating" effect. Lexipro did make me feel gittery BUT I wasn't on it long enough to probably get thru the initial "side effects" of starting a new med. I have currently been on Zoloft for 3 moths and am happy with it. I did not gain weight and that was a concern. I started at 50mg and then bumped to 100mg. I have a lot of friends on Lexipro and are very happy. Also, my PCP said insurance companies cover more of Zoloft than Lexipro (whatever that means)

As for the IUD. I have Merena. I got it as soon as I could after my 3rd child. It really hurt being put in BUT I have had all c-sections. If you have had vaginal deliveries you won't feel as much discomfort. I was too crampy to really do anything that day but was fine the following day. I spotted A LOT for the first few moths but am very happy with it now.

I am also a RN and it was incredibly difficult for me to allow myself to go seek help for depression. My doctor placed me on Lexapro and within 3 weeks I started feeling like I could get through a day without crying. The initial nausea was so bad that I had a tough time sleeping, it was only temporary. So I have good reviews on it.

I can help you with the Lexapro question. My OB prescribed it to me for depression. After my second son was born and my first being diagnosed with autism, I was a wreck and cried a lot! Lexapro made me EXTREMELY TIRED. It was so hard staying awake, but as long as I stayed moving I got through it. Secondly, it made me feel indifferent to things that would have made me cry before taking Lexapro. I did not like feeling that way, it scared me. I took it for about 6 weeks then I tapered off and stopped. I just had to deal with my problems another way. Each person reacts differently to medicine. If I were you I would at least try it. It may work well for you. I sure hope so.

I don't like drugs...I was on Lexapro while they were treating me for Bipolar disorder. It didn't work out well since I wasn't bipolar--I was hypoglycemic and eating the wrong foods! I was basically zonked out and acting like a Zombie when on that a few years ago. My family had that stopped right quick.

Also, my FIL is on it right now and he's really out of it too--I don't think it is for everyone, but I think that it can be good for a time that it is actually needed. People need to get beyond it though and start making life happy.

Also, I felt a little poking and a sensation that can only be described as being poked in there with a tooth pick. It was really uncomfortable for a day or so--until I had a bowel movement--post baby constipation yay.

Then we had some crazy sex and it seemed to 'push' it back in its place.

Now I don't even know it's there--I have to periodically check to make sure lol. But I think it's great!

I was on lexapro and I loved it. The only issue I had is that I gained some weight. The drug was a very low dose and did wonders for me. I am due to give birth on Thursday and can't wait to go back on it. If you need further information please feel free to e-mail me back.

I have been on Lexapro a couple of times. I go through times in the year where I get depressed and have anxiety. When that happens I go on it. After about a month or two I wean myself off of it. I didn't want to be dependant on a drug all the time if I didn't have to be. I found Lexapro worked best for me because I could still have emotions, they just weren't so up and down. I have also been on zoloft and didn't like that. Zoloft made me feel emotionless and I didn't like that either! With lexapro I found a happy medium! Hope this helps. For me, Lexapro is great. I have been on the lowest dose off and on (stopped during my pregnancies) for three years. I have zero side effects with it. I take it for anxiety and it REALLY helps.
Everyone's body is different, but Zoloft turned me into a zombie. I was on that before I ever got pregnant and I had nightmares with it and slept all day. Just my experience. It's a trial and error thing. A good doctor will help you find the right medicine and dosage.

I never took Lexapro because my insurance would not approve. To dangerous? So they put me on zoloft. 2nd I had the Marena I was fully capable to do whatever I wanted after insertion the day of (insertion was painful) I then bled for a good month, and had to wear a pad for two years. I was horribly bloated, my depression got worse I was very irratable and always had cramps. Not to mention I was constantly tired. I never got my period after that first month. I got it out two weeks ago after two years. I could not take it any more. I felt instant releif and feel so much better now. I am not tired anymore, and the bloating went away.

I was prescribed Lexapro for my chronic and post-partum depression. With that and Abilify combined, within a month, I was told by both my mother and mother-in-law that I was a completely different person (ie, happier, better able to handle life). I didn't have any marked side-effects, and it can definitely help.

I have the Mirena and at first the spotting was really a pain and the cramps but now I am very happy with it. It took about 3-4 months for my body to adjust. As for the Lexapro, I have never been on that. However, I have been on Effexor XR and am happy with that. I did have to go the the max dose though. Good luck!

I can offer you some info on your second question-Mirena. I got one about 1 1/2 months ago. It didnt hurt AT ALL! I have cramping now but not bad. Keep in mind that it works by shedding the lining of your uterus so you will have bleeding/etc for a little while afterwards. It hasnt been like my monthly cycle...much lighter. Still TOTALLY worth it. I never have to think about birth control for 5 years! 5 years! Did I say 5 years!

AS for Lexapro, I cant help you. I have used Effexor with phenomonal results.
