Totally normal for breastfed babies!! My last baby went 10 days once! My 3 month old baby has just started going several days between poops.
Hi Mamas,
Wondering if I'm overreacting; should I take baby to doc since she hasn't pooped but a few "squirts" in two days? Plenty of wet diapers. She is breastfed and eating fine and frequently. Before, she had tons of really poopy diapers. I don't think I've changed my diet either.
Yeah she finally pooped. Took 3 days and like the one mama said, watch out!! lol Thanks for relieving my anxiety.

Breast milk is really well absorbed (it's the perfect food for babies), and some babies don't poop a lot while breastfed. You can ask your pediatrician, but if she's wetting plenty of diapers and does not appear to be uncomfortable, I wouldn't worry about it.
Unlike formula, breastmilk is almost totally digested. A breastfed baby can go 10-12 days without pooping! As long as it comes out soft like thick mustard and not in little balls like rabbit poop, it's totally fine:) Just another great thing about breastfeeding, fewer nasty diapers!
M.K. hit the nail on the head. A mother's milk has the perfect combination of fat, protein, carbs, vitamins and minerals. Sometimes there is little to no excess left over from what the baby's body absorbs. My youngest also went anywhere from 5-10 days without a bowel movement and was fine. As long as your baby is wetting diapers and isn't uncomfortably gassy, I wouldn't worry too much.
My doctor said it was normal not to have a bowel movement for 3-4 days.
It sure seems that it would be uncomfortable. so when this happened to my dd I did massage and she had a "blow out" a couple of hours later!
if interested here is a link that tells how :)

same thing happened with my 2 boys, this is totally normal and there really is nothing to do but wait. I did give a suppository but got an ear full from the pediatrician to not do it again so just wait it out.
Totally normal. Little one who are bf can go for quite a while without pooping. If you are concerned or there are other problems, call your doctor or a lactation consultant. Both should be able to help.
She's probably at the start of a growth spurt and is using everything you give her. My five month old has never went more than once every 5-10 days and the pedi said it was okay, but longer than 10 days to use a glycerin suppository. I haven't had to.
Also, as you know, BF poop is so soft that until enough builds up, it doesn't trigger a baby to go. So get ready for Niagra falls when she does!
Now that we have started to introduce rice cereal, it isn't as sweet smelling (though not bad yet) but is coming more frequently in more quantity.
Sounds ok for now. I wouldn't wait too long (4days)for a real poop though. When you said eating, you mean nursing, right? She dosen't need anything else yet.But when you start, dont use rice cereal at all. Try oatmeal instead, prefrebably real oatmeal in the blender. For now just make sure you are drinking lots of water and eating healthy.
Try gently massaging her belly. Start from the top left (her right side) and move in a small circular motion, left to right top to bottom, like you are reading a book. If she has a hard abdomen, she probably needs a good poop! If the massage doesn't help get things going, then yeah, you need to call the nurse and get their advice on whether to make an appointment.
Also, I agree with these ladies below. My breastfeed babies would go days without pooping. The massage is good to get gas out, too.
I have had this same panic attack with all of my boys. Don't worry, the poop will come. And it will come big time! My doctor always said if they are breastfed and wetting fine then don't worry until the 5th day. Sometimes baby's system just does that.
Totally normal. After several weeks breastfed babies often do not poo after every feed and can in fact go several days without a significant poo. Breastmilk has very little waste for babies. My pediatrician told me with our first that they can go up to a week or more.
