My newborn daughter has a rash all over her face and no where else on her body. At first i thought maybe it was just heat rash from getting hot at night, but now i am wondering if it is some kind of allergic reaction. I am breastfeeding and i don't know if it is something i ate that is causing a reaction, or if it the soap i used in the shower. I try to be very careful about what i eat, anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? And as far as the sleep issue she sleeps all day and is up all night and i have tried everything to keep her awake more during the day and nothing works, and i can't really sleep when she sleeps because i have to keep an eye on my 4 year old so i end up getting 2 or 3 hours of sleep if im lucky. PLEASE MOMS HELP ME!!! I need some other ideas how to try and get her to sleep at least a few hours at a time at night so i dont become a walking zombie. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

First of all congratulations on your new addition and I do so wish for some sleep for you. Sleep deprivation is the worst and can make things for YOU complicated. You've gotten some good advice and I too would tell your pediatrician what is going on and seek their input as well. However, allergies can be present in all types of forms and I too would suggest getting off of all milk products and soy and nuts. These are the most common allergies and believe it or not, they are in many baby care products! So may want to switch to more botanically based or all organic ones so you know there aren't dyes, fragrances, chemicals, or even nut oils in them. I know of so many people who have benefited not just for their little ones, but their whole family by using these type of products. I know my family has. I'd be happy to share with you what has worked for us. It's amazing how many things that we don't know about and our doctors don't tell us either! But even they don't know everything.

Make sure you are taking good vitamin supplements and drinking lots of water. You need to keep up your health during all of this too! The more raw food - fresh veggies and fruit, the better for you and your newborn! Let me know how I can be of help to you.

Yup I agree - baby acne. It's not pretty, but it should go away on its own after a couple weeks. Just wipe her face daily with a clean damp cloth and try not to let it get to you. Congratulations on your new baby!!

Sounds like baby acne to me. Nothing you can do, it has to do with the hormones that were in your body at the time of birth. It'll pass. Just bathe her as usual for a newborn, 1-2 times a week, with a gentle, fragrance free soap.

As far as sleeping goes, try keeping her around bright lights during the day and making her room very dark at night. I read that somewhere and it worked for me. Also, I swear by those little gadgets that make womb sounds. Mine was a bear that would activate every time baby fussed. It was great. Both my babies would calm down hearing that noise. I really hope this helps! I know your pain. Hang in there, she'll get it soon!

Ok- while some people may say it might just be baby acne (and it very well could be) -- my daughter had it as well and I was breastfeeding her as well. She has a milk allergy that wasn't diagnosed until she was 1.5 years old! She never developed blood in her stool (as some milk allergy babies do) but she had the face rash, was up all night and irritable during the night (did sleep through the night from 12 weeks on though but those first 3 months were HORRIBLE), then went on to eczema behind the knees and elbow folds when I switched her to formula a few months in. The eczema got horrible when I switched her to organic whole milk at 1 yo and the allergy was diagnosed by testing at 17 mos because I knew she had a BAD peanut allergy (slip up at a daycare not once but twice allerted us when she ate something peanut cross-contaminated and reacted) so we did the testing. Came back with 4 food allergies. Our allergist does not do testing until babies are at least 6 months. I am breastfeeding my 2nd child (currently 9 mos; daughter is 25 mos) and was told by the allergist to not restrict my diet unless he showed allergy symptoms like my daughter did. He never did and when tested at 6 mos he was allergy free. Milk elimination diet is HARD...believe me -- I know because I have to find milk-free items for my daughter and even some supposed soy items (like yogurt and cheese) still contain some milk! Good luck and if you want to private message me, I can give you a list of truly milk-free items to try. Bad news is, some kids that are milk allergic are also soy allergic....takes away a lot of options. I will pray for you and your little one that it isn't an allergy!

As for the sleeping...dim the lights at night, keep it bright during the day -- sometimes takes a few more weeks to get the mix-up over with of days/nights and if the babies are born before their due dates, it can take even longer to sleep long stretches at night. Good luck!

Your baby could have baby acne which is very common in infants especially if your breastfeed. Just be sure to clean it often with a clean cotton ball and water. It will go away on it't own eventually.

Just putting my 2 cents in!!...& don't take this wrong please...call the doctor & describe it and if the doctor is concerned he/she will have you come in to check out the rash...As far as the sleeping may God help you as that it took me till my daughter was 8 mos old before she slept for any length of time...my thoughts & prayers are with you on the sleep issue...I wish I had better advice for you on this one...Best of luck with both issues & congrats on your new blessing!

for us it was bright red splotches (eczema) vs little red pimples... it started at 2 weeks old. Dr poo pooed me when i mentioned allergies (my husband was allergic to everything and not fit for this planet). Anyway, i wish i didn't wait till 6 months to ignor his dr (who i love and still love) and went to the allergist. I had given up dairy on my own and saw some improvement but still bad. still 4 hrs screaming, but at least no vomiting. He was allergic to EGG. in a dangerous way. and dairy and soy.
I gave up all of it for a year. it took some adjusting.
When i went back to the dr he was startled and asked what i did because he looked like a different kid (he really looked like he had been burned). yeah doc, he has allergies.

at least now he takes me seriously.

so try avoiding ALL dairy. all of it. even breads w/milk in it. ALL, read labels. try it for 2 weeks and see if it makes a diff. If it does not, try eggs. They are hidden under many many dif names... 2 weeks. see if that makes a dif.

it took us 3.5 yrs, but he's out grown them all.

any questions ask. that's usually the 1st thing they will suggest you do.
