Hello Moms,
So, for the last 38 3/4 years of my life I have never had to make Thanksgiving dinner. I was on my own and single most of those years so I would go to my family in NY or to the boyfriend of that season's house. The last few have been at my inlaws house. However, we don't really associate with them anymore(long story for another post) so my husband wants me to cook dinner??!! HELP! First of all, it took me years to finally eat chicken. I know it is healthy but I was once a vegetarian and know all about dirty birds. So, I don't want tofurkey or anything like that. My husband want the traditional dinner. I can make the rest of the stuff but I know absolutely nothing about turkeys. Do they come small enough to feed 4? I don't want left overs for weeks for soup, sandwiches etc.... How the heck do I cook one? I keep thinking of National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and how the turkey was so dry it was like jerky. Do they have companies that you can order a turkey from already cooked (I know pathetic)? Anyone out there with an easy recepie? And no, I am NOT sticking my hand in a dead bird and stuffing it. I will do stove top. (He does not want to go out either, I tried that)
OK, Moms... help me out here and try not to be too hard on me!
Christina

There are compnaies who do make turkeys already cooked and all you do is heat it. I have never ahd one. I cook for myself, an 8 year old, my brother and my mom so I get a small turkey breast (about 8 lbs). My daughter doesn't eat turkey but she eats everything else.

We don't have that much leftover.

Good Luck

I refuse to stuff the bird either! Its not supposed to be healthy so I gladly skip it. I would get just the turkey breast and roast that. You can get them on bone and it takes a much shorter amount of time. Most poeple only really like the breast meat, so you should be good on that one. If your DH gives you greif, just remind him that you don't want it to go to waste. Add stuffing and all the sides and you are good to go :)

Also, if you do a turkey in the oven, use an oven bag. You just follow the instructions on the bag and put it in the pan and forget about it. the bag keeps the juices in the turkey so it's not so dry...I usually do it longer than the time says, because I like when it's so soft it falls off the bone, but if you want to carve it, go by the directions.
you can get oven bags at the grocery store.

I know that in many supermakets you can order Thanksgiving dinner. Comes with a cooked turkey, you just have to heat it, and sides(differ from store to store.) My daughter was born last November and that is what I decided to do and it worked out great. Good luck to you.
