You can try all kinds of fruits and veggies! I fed my son about 3x daily solid food (even if it were just a few bites) when I sat down for a meal we ate together. You can do sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, pears, applesauce etc.
My baby will be 5 months next week. He is eating rice cereal with bananas and apples once a day. Any other food ideas? Should I give him more than once a day? BTW he loves eating with the spoon. Thanks

If he really likes eating solids, you can try other foods, like veges. If he doesn't like a food hold off on it and try others. Go back and try something he didn't like after awhile.

I made all of our son's first foods too. He loved baked squash, avocado and carrots.
I think it's all up to you. Right now he doesn't really need the food, not until 6 months. My son did a little better with spitting up and sleeping when I fed him at 4 months so I just did cereal until 6 months and then started on the veggies and fruits. But, if you feel like he likes it and wants more then it's probably fine to feed him more than once a day, but just make sure he's still drinking mostly formula. At around 7-9 months the formula intake may decrease due to food intake and that's fine, but until then it should be mostly formula.
Homemade baby food rocks. It's so cheap and easy to make, good for you! I lalso like wholesomebabyfood.com, they have lots of good tips!
Cauliflower, Sweet potatoes, Winter Squash all puree very smooth. As to how much to feed him, it depends on his appetite. Over the course of the next couple of months, you might want to transition to offering 3meals a day, each consisting of a cereal (rice, oats or barley) and a fruit or veggie.
I would give him just about any of the 1st stage foods, starting with veggies. I would start giving him his cereal/with fruit once a day, and veggies once a day. As he grows, you can add another feeding.
