My 4 mo old just had her first nosebleed. Is this normal at her age?

I agree, it is probably the weather. As long as it is not profuse or on going, she should be alright. You may want to try using saline drops to help keep her moisturized.

humidifier for the house as this is the time of year where you have heat on it dries nose out.my 8 & 3 yrs olds get slight nosebleeds when over excited

While I do agree with what the others said that it could be the dry heat and all (Little Noses-made for infants/toddlers- brand has saline "gel" like stuff to lubricate the inside of the nose.) I would keep a close eye on how frequent she gets them (if, indeed, she keeps getting them) how long they last, what you did to get it to stop and whether the flow of blood was a little, more than a little or what you would consider quite a lot. My son suffered with nose bleeds for 5 years before his drs. took his situation seriously enough to send him to an E.N.T.! He eventually went through a fifteen minute surgery to cauterize some blood vessels in his nose that were too close to the surface. He has had a few since January '06 when it was done but NOTHING like he was getting. He would get these huge clots that were really gross and scary to him. Just don't underestimate the nose bleed. He used to bleed for a minimum of 20 minutes every time, sometimes 3-5 times a day! It was horrible. The longest time he bled for was around an hour, even after we pinched the soft part of his nose for about 20 min. AND put ice on it. I hope and pray this is not her case but just don't dismiss it for both your sakes.
