I have a 10 month old who I thought had an ear infection. Took him to the dr today to hear it wasn't an ear infection but his first molars coming in. Hear it's early and very painful. I have given him tylenol and Ibuprofen to lessen the pain (as the dr recommended)...

But the problem is that when I put him down for naps or bedtime, he screams in pain. Can anyone suggest anything for me? I'm worried and I know there isn't much you can do for them. Will he be waking a lot in the night from pain?
Help, Please!

What can I do next?

I'm not sure if you still need the advice, but this is what worked for my son's 1 years and is working for his 2 years.

I mostly used the hollistic teething tablets with the lady in the floaty kind of dress on the label. They seen to help him a lot.

My ped also told me that if it's hurting for him to lay flat, put a couple of phone books under the feet at the head of his bed. He said that keeping the head above the heart helps to minimize the discomfort. (Let me tell you, after having my tonsils out in Dec. I found out OH so well how true this is.)

He also said that there is a lot of truth to the oldest of all remadies for teething babies. Brandy/ Whisky in VERY, VERY, V-E-R-Y, small amounts is okay, and even helpful. His instructions were: fill a shot glass, Now drink it. Fill and repeat. Now that you're a little more relaxed- fill it an 1/8 to a 1/4 of the way. Using a Q-tip, dip in alcohol, then rub it on rim of shot glass to remove any extra liquid. Now that the Q-tip is almost dry, swab on affected area. DO NOT repeat more than 6 times per day, at least 4 hours apart. (You don't want to be drunk while hubbies away, and more than that's not good for the baby anyway! :O) )

The amount of alcohol you're giving him is less than what occurs natrally in an over ripe pear. (Pears ferment as they get soft.) The alcohol also helps clean the area of bacteria; which, if his gums are starting to open, then close again, can cause an infection. Let me tell you, an infection in the gums around an irrupting tooth is UNBAREABLE! My 12 year morals got infected twice. The dentist finally cut my gums open to let them grow in easier. (Also a VERY painful option. I had 4 HUGE ulsers in my mouth right where I chew.)

I know, EVERY mom reading this post is going to tell you about the dangers of Alcohol Poisoning by using brandy/whisky, but I SWEAR, it worked- and has for longer than any of us have been alive! Take care, ~J

My son was in a lot of pain when his molars came in too. I just gave him tylenol and motrin. It doesn't always help and you just kind of have to deal with it until they come in. I always gave my son popsicles when he was teething. It didn't cure the pain, but he was able to jam the popsicle back in his mouth and bite down. Good luck!

Good luck! My daughter just cryed and was uncomfortable and nothing made her happy. I only lasted a couple of days, and it would come and go. It hurts worse when they get really tired, then they don't wanna sleep cuz it hurts, then they are cranky cuz their tired... vicious cycle. My daughter like to occasionally chew on ice or cold stuff like ice cream or frozen yogurt. The cold helps numb the mouth, but there isn't really much you can do for the headaches and such, as far as I know. Just lots of loves and kisses.

My daughter's very last two teeth just came in!!! Thank goodness it's finally over!!! (for now...)

Trust your instincts, your a good mommy!

Ok tea bags work if you dip them in hot or warm water and have him keep it in that spot for a while or clove oil but make sure it's just a little bit and diluht it well. I'd look online for toothpain at google because I was just looking this up for my husband's abcess today and there are alot of remadies that work. I know baby orajel works but adult just make mine hurt worse so I use baby orajel for teething. But if you go with the tea bags make sure they have no caffiene and the flavor called sweet dreams is my all time favorite. it really is sweet and it has a soothing flavor. It will help him sleep.
hope it works.
