We are planning on throwing a first birthday party for Sept and I am looking for places around Anaheim Hills, Orange, Yorba Linda, Irvine, etc. (Our first choice were the pavilions at Irvine Park Railroad but they are all booked). I am hoping to find some place where we can bring our own food. Outdoors is preferred but am willing to go indoors because it will be hot!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the tips! We spend the weekend looking at different parks. Mason Park in Irvine is awesome too - great lake view but shelters are a bit small except for 1 at the far end of the park. Unfortunately all were booked for the weekend we needed. Toyon park looked great too but only had 3 picnic tables in the shelter. Yorba Regional has always been my favorite but definitely crowded on the weekend and shelters didn't really provide shade. Unfortunately this was booked too. We finally decided to stick close to home and rent the shelter at Canyon Rim Park. Won't provide the shade we want during the day, but not crowded at all and would feel like we had the park to ourselves. And it was available! Has great playground for both younger kids and older kids, basketball court, volleyball court, baseball field, additional open bbq areas, clean restrooms and plenty of parking.

Yorba Regional park is not far. It is a huge park with play equipment and a large duck pond.
The Santa Ana zoo is also a fun place but i am not sure if you can bring in your own food. you would have to check they have a good little website at
http://www.santaanazoo.org/index.htm
there is a train and carousel there along with the animals.
Good luck and Have Fun!!! first birthdays are so sweet.

Box Canyon Park is burned to the ground along with East Side Park sad to say... my kids bug me at least once a week asking if they have been rebuilt:(

Toyon Park also has an eating area next to a play area and lots of grass for people to play ball, etc. Don't be too bummed about not getting a pavilion at Irvine Park. I did that last year for my son's birthday and there were tons of wasps constantly bothering us and being magnetized to people's sodas, food, and the cake. It was most annoying. Have a great birthday!

Hi there! We recently had our daughter's first birthday at the Santa Ana Zoo. Yes, you can bring your own food and beverage into the zoo. Very limited restrictions - no balloons, straws, etc. The party was a success and the staff were very friendly. Everyone that attended (approx. 140) were very pleased with the location - especially mommy and daddy!

I did my son's 1st bday at Toyon Park. They have a gazebo thing you can reserve through the city. It has a large grill-but we picked up at Costco down the street. I may be crazy hot that time of year...

There is a nice covered Pavillion at Pioneer Park in Tustin (off Jamboree/ Pioneer Rd - actually very clost to Irvine regional) that can be reserved. The park has a really fun water play area too.

We had a b-day party for my daughter at Irvine park without booking a pavillion. We went ont he train and ponies, then ate in a different part of the park next to one of the play areas. We had a lot more room and no reservation fee.

Another party was held at Box Canyon Park in East Yorba Linda off of La Palma. I"m not sure if this was damaged inlast years fires. The playground looks like a castle fortress and a knights/princess theme was perftect.

Yorba regional park is great too but does get very crowded on the weekends.
