My 19 month old is already trying to climb out of her crib. Is it safe for her to sleep in my bed? Is she old enough for a toddler bed?
My son started climbing out at 18 mos. Instead of a toddler bed he sleeps on a full size bed. He didn't sleep with me because then he would have to get used to sleeping in his own bed and I cut right to the chase. He loves it because it gives him a lot of room to move arround. Experts say that once they start climbing out of the crib or reach 36" it is time to switch them to a regular bed.
Our daughter could scale that crib at 12 months.. we put her in her bed asap. We placed up against 2 walls.. There were a few weeks of taking her back over and over to stay in her bed, but she caught on we were serious..
If you can handle your child sleeping in your bed that is your choice.. at some point they will get too big or may move around too much.. We sleep in a queen sized bed, so it was not very often we let our daughter sleep with us..

She is ready for a toddler bed, my boys switched at 16 months and did great.
Time to get a bed! You can do toddler bed. We put ours right into a twin bed with a safety guard.
We skipped the toddler bed and just put a twin mattress on the floor.
Wow, to me 19 months is old for a crib, I've seen people keep 3 year olds in cribs, but that's beside the point. I would def get a toddler bed. Both my girls got a new bed at 1 year. So if she is trying to get out, definatly time.
My twins were in toddler beds at that age. If you but your child in your bed its very hard to get them out....

My son started climbing out, successfully, at @ 20 months. I would put him down and he would come running out a few minutes later and say "Hi!" completely delighted and sure I would be thrilled to see him.
I put him in a twin bed with rails because we didnt have a toddler bed. I would have preferred using a toddler bed, though. He moves around so much in his sleep that we had to use several rails to keep him from falling out.
It took a couple of nights of putting him back in his bed 5, 10, 15 times before he would actually stay in it, but after 3-4 nights, he would stay.
Time to remove the crib. What I did to save money (forget buying a toddler bed) was just leave the crib mattress on the floor and pack the crib away.
Toddlers are children from the ages of 12 months up to 24 months, after they turn two they are classified as Pre-schoolers. Toddler beds are for toddlers. Every one of my grandkids were in toddler beds by 15-18 months. They took right to them but I think it was because they were in their rooms and being in child care they had started sleeping on cots at 10 months. So it was never a big transition. I would rather her be safe getting out of bed to wander around instead of possibly falling on her head and getting hurt.
I started putting my my daughter in a twin size bed when she was 19 months. I would not consider putting her in your bed, that is a HARD habit to break. I just made sure the bed had side rails, it made her feel a lot more secure.. Hope it goes well
It is more than safe for her to co-sleep with you, in fact, in Scandinavia it is recommended!
We've co-slept since he came home from hospital and still do to this day. We have bought a toddler bed (enclosed 3 sides and open on one) and put it beside our bed. He sleeps well in it and comes between us when he wants warmth or a cuddle!
