19-Mth Daughter Fell Going up Stairs and Her Teeth Are Pushed Back into Her Gum.

We were at the emergency room last night and the four top teeth are are pushed back into her gum to varying degrees. The nurses said this is a common injury, but she is so uncomfortable and drinking/eating is going to be an issue over the next few days. Has this happened to your child? How did you get through the next days. We are off to the market to buy jello and popsicles (she has not had either yet). She is a pretty picky eater.

What can I do next?

@ 18 months my son fell and put his front teeth almost all the was through his tongue!! We were in the same boat - he had never had a popsicle or anything - I did italian ice - it was a little easier - or you could look for a homemade slush recipe if you wanted something all natural. Like you, I felt terrible for the amount of pain he was in, but they are so resilient that by the time we were finally seen @ the emergency room he was running around playing with the other kids as if nothing happened. He is now 2.5 and still seems to be prone to those facial injuries - not fun :0)

I would go see a dentist in the morning. I thought they tried to pop them back into position ... not sure though. A dentist would be your best bet.

hi H.,
My daughter did the same thing. She is just fine. We did her Tylanol for the pain. She ate Yo baby yogurt, past / mac. cheese, grilled cheese in the microwave for it was soft that way. She is now 26 months and is doing it just fine. Her teeth are healthy and strong. It took a few weeks to feel better. We did take her to the dentist and the watched, they did not want her teeth to turn gray. They did tae x-rays to make sure no nerve damage. I hope this helps you out. Good luck to the little one hope she feels better soon.

I would call the pedi for a referral to a pedi dentist - you're going to need one anyway, so you might as well establish a relationship now. The xrays can be sent from the ER. Keep the nutrition up too - try pasta (well cooked), applesauce, yogurt, even baby veggies & fruit, scrambled eggs, and so on. You can also puree vegetables and mix the purees later on into regular food to boost nutrition - like adding butternut squash to mac & cheese, squash & pureed spinach to spaghetti sauce, and pureed cauliflower to pancakes. Reliv International makes a phenomenal family of nutritional products, including a supplement for kids - it will support the immune system and help with healing as well as providing great nutrition going forward. The products are patented (highly unusual for food products - really a testament to their quality and uniqueness. If you don't know a distributor, let me know, or call Reliv at 1-800-RELIV-US and give them your zip code. They will give you a senior level ambassador to discuss this with.

Dear H. D,

My daughter fell when she was about 1yr right in front of me! Her teeth did move quite a bit (they sort of got pushed back not up), but we only took her to the dentist. One tooth did turn a very very light grey (hardly noticeable at all) and the dentist said we would just have to wait and see what happens with her permanent teeth. I worried about it for a long time, but there really is/was nothing I could do. We just have to wait and see. Just go with your gut feeling on anything. Maybe take her to your dentist to get another opinion? I think the popsicle and jello thing is a great idea to help with the discomfort.. Best of Luck to you. N. P
