For my daughters 18th birthday in July I would like to combine it with her graduation party and hold it at Booby McKeys at the National Harbor late June to save money. Is this tacky? We have family coming out for her graduation that will not be able to stay for this but I thought maybe we could do a dinner with them instead. What do you think?

What can I do next?

Given your daughter's age I think you should talk to her. If you can only afford one party then ask her what she would prefer.

If I were turning 18, I'd rather have a birthday party more with my friends and less on the grandparents/aunts/uncles scale and have something on a smaller scale-like dinner with family or a bbq for my graduation.

Ask her what she would like. That's where I'd start.

I would do 1 party. Make sure your daughter is ok with it.. Her best friends will probably take her out on her real birthday.

I agree do the party at graduation.. Kids and families usually have huge plans the summer before going off to college. They will all be there to celebrate..

FYI, we invited lots of our daughters all time favorite teachers , coaches and Principals, all they way back to elementary and into high school.. They also had a blast..

Not tacky at all... as long as your daughter is only expecting one gift per guest! Everyone does their grad parties the weekend of graduation. Your daughter's will stand-out being a month later and just before they all "scatter" for college!

we combine parties in our family.....all the time. My sister did her son's graduation, combined with his 18th bd & his sister's bd.....because the bds are back to back (June 5 & 6th)....& the kids have always celebrated together.

& as a heads-up, most of our graduations are in May....but we usually have so many going....that the parties span all the way out to July! So I think June is great....have fun!
