18 Month Old Throwing up Milk?

Can anyone give me advice on this one? My 18 month old (was nursed for a year and then went to milk on the bottle) has thrown up her milk about 5 times in the last 2 weeks. It's been off and on, and there's no real connection to "why". I can't pin point it. I know she has no allergies. I wonder if warming the milk makes it old quicker, or if she's just ready to go off it (before naps and bedtime). Let me know what you think!

What can I do next?

Unless it has been ruled out by a test, it could very well be an allergy. If she hasn't been tested, I would switch her to rice milk, and as long as she is doing fine with other dairy products (ie: cheese, yogurt, etc) keep giving those to her. I would tell your pediatrician about this as well.

I would contact your dr. Throwing up anything isn't good for a little one. My dr said that allergies will present themself between 18- 2 yrs old. I had a concern about my daughter being allergic to our cats.

Cow's milk causes the most allergies in children. My daughter was also sick, got eczema real bad, was diagnosed with several different things before I decided to do the research myself. Took her off cow's milk, put her on soy, and presto, all the sickness stopped. I had even tried skim milk because I was told by the WIC nutritionist that it had less reactions. My daughter just turned 3, I am considering trying milk again, but soy has been so safe. Good luck, hope it works out.

I would get off the milk and switch to soy for at least 2 weeks, then wean back onto regular milk and see what happens. My DD did this, was on regular formula and when we switched to whole milk she got a rash and puked up the milk, not every time, but enough. We put her on soy and the rash and throwing up went away completely, and when we tried to switch back to whole, same problem. Her GI told us to stay on soy for 3 months and try again, usually its something they will outgrow. I really dont think it has anything to do with the temp of the milk, milk can actually stay out pretty long before it goes bad, a few hours according to our feeding therapist, it might not taste very good, but shouldnt make them throw up.

how long is it sitting out? Sounds like it's just a simple case of getting rid of what's no longer good. If it were an illness, it would be more consistent... and if it were an allergy, you would be more likely to see it before now...

We give our son about 30 minutes to drink his bedtime bottle, and then it gets dumped. It gets warmed in the micro (we shake well to prevent hot spots) and the timer begins.

I've heard that milk starts to go bad at room temperature... but have not been able to find out for sure...

I am paranoid about spoiled milk... it's the last thing I grab at the grocery store, and the first thing I put away when I get home.

How do you know she has no allergies?? They can develop anytime. I have a mom in my Kindermusik class whose daughter was fine breastfed, then went to formula and they had to try several formulas. One would seem fine and then a month later she'd be vomitting and they'd have to switch again. I think she's now on rice milk and allergic to almost everything. Another child I know can only drink goat's milk. So it could very well be an allergy. Is she eating/snacking on something with the milk? It could be something in the snack, too.
