Help!! My 18 month old all of a sudden hates his crib. I use to be able to give him a kiss lay him down for a nap and he would sleep for 2 to 3 hours no fuss, then at night we would do a bath, book, some rocking and then lay him down for 12 hours. Now if you go near his crib or lay him in it he screams and rams his head into the side of the crib and he does it hard, I let him cry and he cried for over an hour with no hope of stopping so he slept with me in the recliner for a little bit and then I laid him back down and he woke after 2 hours screaming again. I don't want him to sleep with us, but my heart can't take him wailing wither. He is teething and I give him Tylenoyl. I am not sure what to do. please tell me this is a phase and that my good sleeper will return.!.!.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, so far it is tolerable, He cried a little last night an woke up a few times, but he is soothing himself back to sleep. I think it is like some of you said a phase and teething and maybe a little separation anxiety. No ear issues or anything. The Ped ruled that out. Thank you for all your comments, I love Mampedia!

Perhaps he's just ready to move out of the crib because he feels confined by it. Do you have one of the convertible types that can be converted into a toddler bed? If not lay his matress on the floor with all of his normal bedding and see what happens. If it goes great maybe it's time for a toddler bed or switching to a big boy bed if you don't want the extra step. GL

Has anything changed in the room like furniture or new toys that might have shadows that scare him? My son would sometimes have a hard time going to sleep and wanted the light on. When those days happen I will turn on a distant light so there is just enough light coming into his room so he can see and know everything is ok. It could be that he's just done with the crib. At about 2 yrs my son figured out how to climb in and out of the crib. (I watched on the video monitor) I reluctantly had to convert it to a toddler bed and deal with how to keep him in the bed. We did put a gate up so he can't wander all through the house and for a while it sometimes took several trips upstairs to get him back in bed. He does good now though. Good luck

he may just be ready for a toddler bed. my daughter was the same way at 15 months, so we switched her, and she was just fine.

I just went through the same issue with my son and he will be 19 months old tomorrow. It lasted a little over a week where he would scream for up to an hour each time I put him down for a nap or to bed at night. I found that putting him down for two naps again a day instead of one helped, and I also kept it a litlte cooler in his room than it has been. Seems to have done the trick and he maybe cries once during the naps/bedtime, and it's only for a minute or two.

So YES, I think it's a phase.

Is it possible that he has an ear infection and is not able to tolerate lying flat?
