16 Year Old Birthday Party

My daughter loved tye-dyeing at her 16th bday party. Another big favorite was a party with karaoke and wii. Depending on the weather, scavenger hunts in teams can be a big hit, too. For 16 year olds, we've found some music and food works. Pizza's fine, but my daughter tells me her favorite parties are when there's "real food", which can be as simple as pasta & sauce, salad and some bread.

It seems a general plan with room for some variation and then time to just hang together works well.

My niece is turning 16 in January and talked about having a tye dye party. It sounds cute actually and even if it's cold you could do it in the garage. I'm sure the girls would like it and they could bring nightgowns, boxer shorts, socks, whatever! Afterwards they could watch a movie and order pizza or something.

I'd run a few ideas past her and if she's receptive to one of them go for it, but if she doesn't seem into an activity then just let them chill out I guess!

Might be a tad expensive but you could rent a limo (prices can be negotiable). Have the limo pick the teens up from your house 30 minutes after your party time and take them to a salon nearby. Here they can get their nails done. Once they get back, pizza, popcorn & movies.

Last year we had my dgtr's Sweet 16 here at the house, rented tables, arranged centerpieces, had a fire pit with s'mores and hot dogs. We set up the garage with the wii and tv, air hockey and the kids could shoot hoops in the driveway. There was lots of music, and snacks. They all had fun.. What I wouldn't do if I had it to over was rent the tables and chairs, they didn't sit to eat at all and the tables were SO PRETTY!! We monitored the kids who were trying to sneak off, but other than that...they all had a good time.

My girl just turned 16 on Friday! We paid for a dinner out at her favorite restaurant for her and six friends and then they came back here for cupcakes and a sleepover.
Just make sure they have lots of snacks and drinks and DVDs, they really don't want too much parental involvement at this age ;)

At 16, I don't think that you need to plan activities. Your daughter should know what she and the other teens want to do and can really plan her own party. My daugher had a sweet 16 in June, party at a country club with a deejay. At home, they may just want to listen to music, gab and eat. Is it a mixed party (boys and girls)?

I've found at this age they really just enjoy hanging out. My daughter just had her 15th birthday and 6 girls came over. I set out a veggie tray and some chips. Then I sent them down the street to the local pizza place for dinner, they came home and hung out. Just ask her what type of food she wants.

Do a make your own photo booth. Take them digitally and let them post them then print them out at thank you cards.

We had a couple of big blowout parties and some at home parties that were low key. Depends on what they want.

The last party here was a surprise party for my 16 yr old's boyfriend. They all sat around listened to music, played the wii, ate lots of food (boys eat a lot, especially the athletes), and just chilled out.

We've had them as big as a DJ at the country club, buffet, prizes, etc.

All were enjoyed... I think I enjoyed the one at my house more... a lot less stressful than getting 100 RSVP's, etc.

I don't know your groups but around here, they are not much into gifts anymore. They like to go out to eat, go to the places like Main Event, Strikz (places with arcade, bowling laser tag, etc)
