I'm just curious if anyone else has seen their child do this. I have a 16 month old daugher. This morning when she woke up, she was having muscle twitching all over her body. It was almost like she was shivering, but her lips wern't quivering like she was cold. It lasted about 1 or 2 minutes. She didn't seem out of it or anything. I have noticed it before and thought that she was cold, but this time it seemed to be more severe. I dressed her warmer tonight and will see if it happens again tommorrow. I'm going to call the Dr tommorrow anyways. I don't know it just seemed weird.

Please have it checked out -- it may be a muscle spasm or a mild form of epilepsy. That can take strange forms like giggling (!)or a facial twitch. Good luck! Your baby sounds like a precious sweetheart.
My sister in law has a little boy who used to do the same thing and it turned out it was the beginning of seizures. I hope for you that is not the case but there are lots of fabulous meds out there. My sister in law has her son's illness totally under control. I would go to the doctor now and insist on a cat scan. It is the only way to know for sure if you are dealing with something neurological. My youngest had to have a cat scan when she was about 18 months old it was so scary because at that age they have to be put under. The scary part is the child trying to fight the meds that are putting them to sleep because they don't understand what is going on. It will give you peace of mind knowing for sure what you are dealing with. After numerous doctors, ridiculous amounts of doctor visits and co pays no one knew what was wrong with my baby. Finally a pediatric doctor suggested a cat scan so we would know for sure. It was one of the best things I've ever done. Peace of mind when it comes to your children is more powerful than words can describe. Good luck to you and your family.
Hi, I just wanted to tell you about my experience. I have a six year old son and when he was 15 months old I observed him twitching in the middle of the night. I thought nothing of this other than he was cold and so i put more blankets over him. About two hours later he was twitching violently and was unresponsive. When we got to the emergency room they told me that he was having a febrile seizure(a seizure bought on by a very high body temperature)I guess he is one of those kids who can not handle increases in body temps well. Well they went on to say that with the high fever he probably felt cooler than just a mild fever and that's why i didn't notice also he will eventally grow out of the seizures. The good news is that he hasn't had a seizure since that incident over five years ago. So please do not ignore the twitching, even if you go to the emergency room. Better to look silly than to be sorry later.
K., you need to take your daughter to the doctor IMMEDIATELY!!! Although this could be something very benign, It could be something that is more serious. Please have her evaluated by a physician as soon as possible.
K.,
All three of my kids did that when they were first waking up. My daughter did it the most. I took her to the doctor, but he said that this was a common thing that kids do when they wake up. By the time that she was 2 1/2 or so she had outgrown it. As long as she has no other symptoms of being sick I would not worry too much about it. You should call your doctor just to be sure.

Good morning K. L!
I have a toddler who also had that experience, but her lips also shivered. It lasted for close to week...on and off, then passed. This was about 2 months ago and I haven't noticed it since. She's a bit of an actress so I generally need to attempt to discern if she's acting or if she's displaying actual symtoms sometimes!!
I haven't spoken to her pediatrician regarding it...waiting to see if it returns. It's very frightening when it's happening, though. I say mention it to her doctor (maybe call to speak to the nurse) and see what they say.
Could it be that she was peeing in her diaper or was just reacting to her wet diaper since you said it was when she woke up, I'm assuming her diaper was wet since she just woke up. My son used to shiver a little like that when he would pee.
Hi K.! You sound a little like Eric and I :)...Animal lovers, silly, and our son Jacob is 15 months old!
As far as your daughter is concerned I would definitely call or take her to the doctor. It could be the beginning stages of some sort of seizures...??
K.,
you should contact your pediatrician about this. You don't want to wait and find out that it is something, rather than wait thinking that it might be nothing.
My daughter when she was a baby use to do that for no reason. It only last for about a few seconds & she only did it maybe 3 or times. But since you said it lasts for about 2 mins. I would take her to her doctors. Let us know what happens.
