Nothing wrong with only 8 teeth. Think that is about the norm. She should
be able to eat everything. It is amazing what they can do!!!!!.
Hi moms! My daughter is 16 months old and only has eight teeth. I know there must be wide ranges when then the other teeth come in, but I wonder if this is common? Has anyone's child also had this? I'm dying for her to get more teeth b/c she wants to eat everything and can't chew very well. Thanks!
Thanks, moms! I knew it must be normal, but still couldn't help wondeirng... It helps to be reassured. Thanks! I'll keep looking for them, but it feels good to know others have had the same experience!

LOL, my son did not get his first tooth until then! And he ate steak with no teeth at all!
My daughter had only a few teeth for the longest time. Then when she got to be 25 months, she suddenly got 8 teeth all at once! Every child follows their own schedule, so I wouldn't worry. Your daughter's teeth will show up in their own good time!
its common mine was the same way. just cut everything extra small
I have three kids 5, 3 & 21 months and they were ALL late teethers. They all got their first tooth at 11 months. My 21 month old had 4 top teeth and 2 bottom teeth until about 2 months ago when she started to cut all 4 of her 2 year molars. Now she is finally starting to cut two more bottom teeth in the front. I know what you mean about not being able to chew very well but I found that my kids sort of adapted to use what they had over time and b/f you know it all of a sudden it seems like the teeth come in in spurts. Hope that helps!
Hi Nadia,
My daughter only had the front top four and the front bottom four from about ten months until just last week. Then all of a sudden all four molars decided to come in at once. She is just about to turn 17 months. All kids are different I wouldn't worry about it. I have a neighbor whose child didn't get any teeth at all until he was 18 months! That child is now a happy 19 year old with a mouth full of teeth.
Hi! I work for a pediatric dentist & rest assured this is totally normal. Every kiddo is different....I see some that have teeth as early as 3-4 months & some who don't start teething until 15-18 months. No worries, they will come!
My first did not cut teeth until she was 13 mos old. She is 7yrs now and just getting loose teeth whereas her friends who are younger already have a mouthful of permanent teeth.
(Amanda, that is not necessarily true about teeth being stronger. She has so many fillings it is ridiculous. I think it is because we weren't given flouride drops with her and since she was our first, we didn't think about it)
My daughter is 18 months and is finally getting her 8th tooth. At 16 months she still only had 4. She's cut 4 teeth in 2 months. Your daughter is totally normal.
My first didn't get her 5th tooth until she was almost 18 months old.
My son is 17 months and just got his 7th tooth. He has four on top and three on the bottom. He is teething currently and I think the molars are trying to make their way through.
My daughter didn't get her first tooth until the month of her first birthday...my niece was nearly two when she got her first. Their dentist and pediatrician said they wouldn't start worrying unless she got to two without a tooth.
There are some who say that the longer that teeth take to come in, the stronger they will be. I can only say that my teeth, both baby and permanent, were delayed and I've never had a cavity.
With children, there is a wide range of normal. However, some dentists like to start seeing children around a year old...go ahead and take her in but I don't think you have anything to worry about.
My daughter is 15 months and only has 6 teeth. I dont know what's normal or not, but wanted to let you know you are not alone!
My 15 month old only has eight teeth...and his friend, who's a week younger, has 12. Heh. Definitely a range!!
