my 16 mo old has had one spot of acne (sometimes just one bump, but sometimes it looks like a few) on her right cheek for a couple of weeks now. i thought nothing of it at first, but does anyone know what i should make of it lasting for such a long time? it doesn't seem to bother her at all. it didn't appear following any change in diet that i was aware of. i just can't quite figure out why it would stick around.

What can I do next?

How do you know it is "acne?"
I would check with the Doctor and make sure, first.
It could be anything.

Just don't put things on it without knowing full well what it is. And certainly do NOT try to "pop" it or open it or abrade it.

My son, has on his left cheek an accumulation of skin cells...it is a kind of birthmark. He was born with it however. But, out of protocol, our Pediatrician had us see a Pediatric Dermatologist, to rule out anything else, and to keep an eye on it. Once a year, we have to have it checked.

To the layperson, it looks like "acne." But it is not.

So with this in mind, I would really ask your Doctor and have him/her look at it closely... with a magnifier even.

Or it could just be a clogged pore.

But have it checked.

All the best,
Susan

With any kind of skin irratation, I would recommend asking the pediatrician to take a look at it. My son has severe ezcema on his back and bottom, and I was so glad I got it looked at by the doctor. We were able to find a natural way to squish the symptoms and its under control today.

It doesn't hurt to ask.

Hi K.,

As a mom of two boys and a holistic nutritionist my first question might be to look at dietary allergies such as dairy, wheat, or peanuts. Does he poop at least 2x/day, if not it could be related to intestinal backup. Try a good quality probiotic from metagenics called ultra flora. It's a powder and can be mixed with yogurt or applesauce. HOpe this helps.

My DS had about a year of redness and acne on his cheeks when he was 18 mos old. Then, it went away and has not returned since. I just made sure to cleanse it with a mild soap (either Ivory or my facial cleanser) and I only used Vaseline (very lightly) on his face if it was dry. Seemed to help.
