This week my daughter started being really fussy when I change her diaper. She is keeping legs tight when I try to wipe her good. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

What can I do next?

Take her to the potty! You are in the window of training that is easiest, called Elimination Communication. Both my boys were out of diapers by 20mos (oldest) an 15mos (youngest) using this. Stress free, no arguing or bargaining or bribing required.

She's probably just testing you - trying to assert her independance. Try "sock puppet hands" put colorful socks on her hands after she's on the changing table but before you undo the diaper. She'll stay busy for 15-30 seconds trying to get the socks off while you take care of business. She may just need a new distration.

My son does this when his bum is hurting from an allergic reaction to some food. He tells me "ouch" or "hurt" Can she communicate to let you know if it hurts? I would want to know if it is caused by pain or just not wanting her diaper changed.

Very normal.. She wants to play and not be interrupted with diaper changing.. I agree to have something to distract her.. We used to let our daughter hold the wipes, or a toy while we changed her..

Maybe the wipes sting or burn her vaginal area. Try using a warm washcloth and see if that makes a difference. If she allows you to wipe with the washcloth then you know it was the wipes. Without knowing what you are using it is hard to say. It could just be a phase she is going through.

I don't know if this will help you but I noticed that my son began to get really agitated when I changed him; he was about a year or more. I switched to pull ups, even tho' he wasn't potty training yet, and I never had a problem after that. Hope this helps!

Sounds like she might be irritated in her girlie parts. Have you switched wipes, diaper, or soap recently? She might have a UTI or a yeast infection.
