hello Everyone,

I am 15 weeks pregnant and I was helping my husband stain our picture window. I helped for about 2 hours and then quit and went into the bedroom and closed the door. The fumes were not bad that night but the next day when I came out of the bedroom, they were strong. So my husband opened the windows until the smell was gone and I left the house. SHOULD I BE CONCERNED AND CALL THE DOCTOR? HELP I can't sleep over this.....

What can I do next?

I would give your Dr. a call even if it is just for piece of mind. A lot of paints and stains actually let of toxins into the air for up to a year. I don't think they have such a thing as toxin free stain, however if you have to paint anything, i.e. nursery etc, I would suggest a paint with no VOC's. That is what we used it is a little more expensive but worth the piece of mind! You can get it at Home Depot.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and don't sweat it too much! We were unaware of our son's presence when I painted our entire first floor...he turned out fine!

You are bound to be exposed to hazards throughout your pregnancy many of which you will not even know about but worry will do you no good so relax and take good care of yourself!

All the best for a smooth pregnancy straight through to a smooth delivery!!!

You're fine. Don't worry about it. Your body filters out toxins before it gets to the baby. Your nose is extra sensitive now too.

K.,
Don't worry. It'll be fine. If that's the most damaging thing that happens in your environment for the next 25 weeks, count your blessings!
You may find that certain smells make you nauseous right now and yes, your sense of smell is definitely more acute during pregnancy.
Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Do not get yourself upset that is not good for you or the baby. Another thing, read the label and see if there are any warnings about using this around people who are pregnant. I would probably be careful with that type of stuff. I would call the doctor if you are really concerned. good luck

There is nothing you can do about it now. Just avoid any other fumes for the remainder of your pregnancy. I'm sure it's fine. At 15 weeks a lot of the baby is already formed. It's good you were out of the 1st tri. Worry isn't good for the baby either, so start NOW and do everything right the remainder of the pregnancy. I've always worried about things I did when I was pregnant after the fact, but everything turned out okay in the end.

I wouldn't worry unless you have some kind of symptoms. That kind of project needs good ventilation and spring or summer might have been a better time, but there's not much you can do about it now. Try to keep that room aired out until the smell diminishes (and sense of smell usually sharpens quite a bit during pregnancy). You could mention it to your Dr next checkup, but I'm not sure what they'd tell you to do about it. Worrying about it will just get you worked up.
