My 15 month old went in for his check up yesterday and got two shots. Today, I noticed that the injection sites are really red, swollen, and warm to the touch. Is this a cause for concern? Have any of your children had the same issue?

My sons do that every time they get shots. But if it does not go away within a day or so I would call his dr. I know once they had to give me an ointment for my son to help it.
Good luck and God bless.
I'm trying hard to remember what shots they get at 15 mo.. I'm thinking it was probably the MMR that is leaving the red and swollen spot, and that is pretty typical for that one. Try putting him in a nice bath, and giving him some motrin to help with the pain and swelling. Those shots are a booger, and tend to do that. If it persists though, I would call the pedi and get an appt to have him looked at, I am assuming that it will pass though, Keep him moving around and active, because the more he uses the leg, the better off he will be, it won't be as sore if he uses it.
I am pretty sure it is normal. My son did that at his 12 month shots. I know when they bleed a little bit, it does that. I don't know if they hit something or what, but his swelled up when he bled a little bit. I would give him Tylenol and watch it. If it is like that tomorrow, maybe call his dr and find out what they say about it.
L.,
My daughter has her 6 months shot recently, and nursed warned me about redness and swollen on one of her injection sites. I didn't really pay too much attention to that cause I was warned by the nurse, and think it went away (or getting a lot better)in 3-4 days.
I don't know if there are some same shots for 6 and 15 months though.
Take care,
S.
HI L.,
putting any kind of "toxin" in your child's body would be a concern to me especially if it is red, swolen etc. that ususally means your body has recognized a foreign substance. Check out these websites. Just sharing to make a WISE and INFORMED decision on what to do.
