Hi moms, ok I have a 15 1/2 month old son and a 3 1/2 ear old. my baby doesnt want to walk, talk, really anything. He was very late (then my older boy) at doing things. He only started crawling a few months ago. He only says momma and da, and Im worried that he might have speech problems like his big bother. We have tried to make him walk everywhere we go by holding his hands, or tring to make him walk back and forth between us or backing up and making him follow us, but he doesnt want to do any of that, he will just sit down. I guess what Im getting at is if anyone has any tricks to try. His pedi. told me it isnt much to worry about all kids do things in their own time, but I dont know sometimes it just worrys me. Anything to help!! Thanks to all in advance!!

So What Happened?

Thanks to all for easing my mind, he is finally starting to try he takes a couple of steps, but atleast he is trying, and alot of it was big brother doing everything for him, when we made him stop doing so much he started to move a little more.

Hi J.,
I wouldn't worry too much. It's hard having two, you want to compare them sometimes. :)
My first son didn't want to walk until 17 months old and really didn't crawl until a few months before. He did some kind of army crawl before that. As for speech I think it's the same thing, before you know it you will be chasing him around in circles and have a hard time getting a word in edge wise! Hang in there and give it some time. But if you are really worried about his speech, you may want to discuss it with his doctor.

You can make your own referral (I did). My pediatrician told me to wait too, and that he wouldn't get worried until he was 15 months old and not pulling up - I was VERY worried - thanks to ECI he started pulling up at 14 months. They do speech, too, as I'm sure you know.

I don't really have advice, but I have been there. My son (now 4) didn't walk until he was 20 months old! We were waiting for ECI to come do an assessment when he finally started moving. I just tried to have toys around that he could pull up on and push around. Really, though, he just did it on his own time. One reason he might not do things is because he has a big brother to do it for him. My younger kids were slower to talk than my older two, just because they didn't have to talk as much. If your pediatrician feels everything is okay I would try not to worry. I know that is hard though. Good luck.

My daughter crawled at 11 1/2 months. She walked at 16 months because we made her. I was never worried about her but there were plently of others who were. I really think they do things in their own time.

does your son have a history of ear infections? my daughter, now 10 yrs. also was delayed in speach and walking. she had alot of ear infections even when she didn't have any signs of ear problems. i would take her to the her pediatrician for a hurt foot and they would tell me ear infection. it wasn't until her first year of kindegarten that i found out she was actually reading lips.
