Please help! My little girl has had GERD since birth and we have had many problems to overcome..colic, sleep problems, holding down her formula...it's just been awful! The only food she will eat is oatmeal mixed with water and seems to have an interest in what we eat but when I offer her she sometimes takes a bite but mostly shakes her head. If she does actually eat finger foods or 'graduates' meals she doesn't eat a lot and doesn't seem to chew the food. She's 14 months and tall compared to other babies her age but very skinny
(I think) about 18lbs. Her Dr. says to keep offering her food and to add a scoop extra of formula per bottle. But she's always hungry and she doesn't sleep well because of it, I think. I'm so upset and dont know if there is something I can feed her to fill her more or put on more calories. The oatmeal is starting to really bind her and she seems constipated now. All of our friends babies are eating so well, why wont she chew? Has anyone had this problem? She only has 4 top teeth and 2 bottom.

What can I do next?

R., I have a niece named Sky!

I would suggest from mainstream world that you get a referral to an Speech Language Pathorlogist. They are about eating not jut speaking. Also, from a not sot so mainstream I would suggest a chiropractor who specialized in babies and is certified in pediatric cranial sacral therapy. You could get a DO who is certified also, that would be even better, but a chiropractor is a very good start.

Hello R.,

I just moved from Margate to Coconut Creek, what a small world. I have a suggestion try cornmeal portage the fine cornmeal and not to much it will get thick fast. Make it like oatmeal but use the sweeten condensed milk. That will pack on the weight and she will not be hungry. If you want more detail. I can send it to you. I am at work not and I can't really write the recipe.

Hi R., havning kids is hard enough with all the stuff they do or won't do, and especially if there are other problems. My son Liam was born with a CHD and he had severe reflux, after 2 heart surgeries he had problems eating and chewing his food. He is on zantac for his acid reflux and because also he is on other medications. I would suggest taking your daughter to a Speech Therapist, Liam would not take food or chew food and they were talking about putting a tube in him so he could eat. Well i wouldn't have that i knew my son could do it. He goes to Speech Therapy and she feeds him and gets him to chew. Now he is 20 months old and finally 18 pounds! He eats alot of variety of food as before he just would let it sit in his mouth but i still have to remind him to chew sometimes. But he is doing really well. She works with him and sometimes i feel that i could do what she does but she gets him to eat and try new things. You can see if you qualify for Early interventions i believe its called and they will help you find a Speech Therapist or you can find one on your own if you have insurance. Good Luck and i hope this helps you

Sounds like you need a different doctor. Give me a shout, let me know your location, so perhaps you are near (Boca/Delray) and take your daughter to someone who will help you. Gerald Passmore is one of them. Gregory Antyuhin is a Russian doctor who will intuitively scan and then tell you what the root cause is.

Meanwhile, Mom, stop the fretting...get educated and stay on top of the child-rearing. It's always something, so know that this will soon pass and you will be stronger and wiser when the next issue arises.
god bless, S.
