14 Month Old Boy Playing with Himself in a Weird Way

Ok so I know it is completely normal for boys to discover their little "friend" and want to play with it. My son (14 months old) will grab it when I'm changing him or giving him a bath and I've been fine with that. But now he has started doing something really weird. He takes his toys in the bathtub and shoves them in between his legs. He even had one block in the bath tub he would look for in particular until I stopped putting it in the tub. He smiles and laughs when he is doing it so I guess it feels good but it looks really painful. He just keeps shoving the toys against him private parts over and over again if I don't stop him. So his privates get all red. I try to give him other toys to play with but he ignores me. It just seems like a weird way to play. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

What can I do next?

Very normal. My son did similar things and one day he came walking down the hall "tucked", I have gotten good at presenting a calm face and reacting calmly to his play...then I laugh when he can't see me. :) I also remind him that he needs to be in his room or bathroom if he starts "playing" in other areas of the house.

My daughter refuses to keep her clothes on and constantly is messing with herself. I put panties on her and she has them off 5 minutes later. She is always messing with herself to the point that she gets red down there and complains that it hurts. I know it's normal to do, but sometimes I just can't handle it and put her in clothes that she can't take off. It is annoying, but very normal.

I recall this. I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. I think the bigger the deal we make out of these things, the more fun or interesting they become on top of having tub fun it is also fun to see mommy feeling crazy about it. Maybe he just doesn't get any tub toys for a bit. Or something that won't hurt. Obviously it bothers us more than them or they wouldn't do it. Kind of like kids who like to pound their heads on walls.

He does it because it feels good to him. If you just ignore him, he'll stop soon.

Not this exactly no. But my youngest son used to pull on his to the point that I thought looked rather painful. I just told him that he would hurt himself eventually and tried to give him other things to do. He stopped, though I don't remember when exactly. He's 4 now and beyond the occasional giggle that it's doing normal things in the morning, there are no issues. I just keep my attitude nonchalant and say, don't worry about it, it'll stop.

just like the other post you got - TYPICAL!! It must be just a boy thing. My son would grab himself and pull - it looked painful to me and he would kind of make a painful noise, but keep doing it. I redirected too. It eventually stopped, but with boys, does it ever??????? :P I asked everyone too - my mom, his doctor, just a sensation he's discovered. My daughter on the other hand, wont let you wash her - that's okay, she wash herself then!

He will stop if it hurts him. Let him do his boy thing. This too shall pass (for now). LOL
