Does anyone know why a 13 months old baby would stop eating table all day? She was eating and drinking at the babysitter good. For the past few weeks, she refuse to drink juice, milk or food all day at the babysitter house. Once I pick her, she usually takes two 8oz bottle before she goes down for the night. She is not teething, sick.

Any suggestion would be appreciate.

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your advice. The baby has always being with babysitter since she was 2 1/2 months old. She has been with the current sitter for 2 months. According to the sitter, my baby has always being a good eater until she has a new tooth 2 weeks ago. Even teething doesn't explain why she refuse food and drink all day.

She doesn't snack sweet since I don't bring it to the sitter's house. It is strange that she will eat and drink once I pick her up. Every morning she cries for me when I leave the sitter's house.

Thank you all for the support and advice, I am in the process of searching for a new child care provider. If anyone of you know someone who runs a day care or is interest in earning some extra money. Please feel free to reply to request.

It might just be a phase, but I think it a good idea to see the pediatrician in case there is something wrong with no visual symptoms. Have the sitter not make an issue of the problem, and maybe just set out small favorite healthy snacks and drink within the child's reach, so that she can help herself if she is hungry or thirsty. Perhaps food can be incorporated into a fun little learning game - is this salty, crunchy, soft, hard, etc.....

Hi J.-

A toddler's serving size is as big as their fist, which is really a tiny amount of food to us. Maybe she's munching on a few things in small amounts and that's enough for her? My daughter (now 1.5 yrs) went through a phase where she ate very little, and our doctor said it was most likely because she was not going through a growth spurt.

Other factors- maybe she is using it as a control thing (they do that even that young), or maybe she is feeling depressed, or perhaps the babysitter is being very fussy about it, which might make your daughter refuse it.

One side note is that your baby is going to eat/drink as much as she needs. She knows when she's hungry and thirsty, and my guess is that she's probably going through a phase and will be over it soon.

the new info helped-- i bet she has associated her mouth hurting with eating at the sitters since she teethed recently. All I can think of it have the sitter try to make her something special- that she only has there-- like make her chicken strips into a little house-- dress up the plate-- maybe even tell her it wont hurt her mouth-- my daughter did this with pooping when we were in public- long story- but it took patience and time for her to work through it.

Does she eat at home? Could there be a problem with the sitter? I would definitely investigate more. This sounds suspicious. Take her to the pediatrician to see what advice they give you. Babies don't just stop eating. Mine eats all day long if I let her.

There could be so many reasons why....but my concern would start with whats happening at the babysitters. Lil' ones show signs of distress through their eating/sleeping habits. I would be concerned with what is happening in her little day to day that is causing her to change her eating habits. Best of luck to you and to your daughter.
